2009-07-22 - Throw down in the Double-D Arena

We had some good ole fashion drive fast and blow 'em up. It was a non-team event with division 10 vehicals ($10,000 or less). Bruce drove three $2,500 bikes, Diane took one large bike, Allen created a car but had to leave early so Doug drove it (quite a tank) and Scott took one of the pre-gen cars. The first person to get more than $6000 worth of vechial in a figure eight around the arena and back out their own gate won.

The only lasted 7 turns (seconds).

Doug and two of Bruce's bikes came out of the shute at toward each other. Doug blew up and steam rolled two of them in the first two seconds losing most of his front armor. Cindy blew up and steam rolled Bruce's final bike at the center of the arena. Pot- shots were taken at Diane but with little effect. She tried to dope some explosive spikes at Scotts gate in wait for his return trip. Doug and Scott decided that a split win was better than a chancy confrontation and so did not fire on each other! The evening ended before they could turn on Diane for the final confrontation.

Session 5 - Midville Invasion

The illigal clones that were the workforce for the new YOD motors factory to the north of Midville have gone on a rampage and stolen cars from the stockyard and been armed by the vigilantee SRH group. They came to wipe out Midville. They (SRH mostly but some of the clones) view it as an accoplice in the use of clones (even though for the most part that's not true). The PC's were called back from Indianaoplis, IN with great haste and were able to defend the town from the attackers. Afterwards YOD motors is being congressionally investigated and the PC's were awarded metals by the mayor for service to the city.

Session 4 - Road Encounter with SHR

While the group was traveling from Midville, OH to Columbus, OH for an arena event, 4 similarly painted pink and green motorcycles came out of the brush alongside I-70 and began tailing us. When they were in range the opened fire, prompting the group to retaliate. After a short battle, the group managed to survive mostly unscathed (with the exception of Kevin losing his two driver-side tires). The motorcyclists were not so lucky. One was killed in action, and the others lost their power plants. One managed to escape into the brush briefly, but was found while the other two were held for questioning.

We discovered the paint scheme is that of the Society for Human Rights. They attacked us because of the Yaad motor advertisements on our vehicles. They believe that Yaad motors is violating the rights of free will in the new plant opening near Midville. They think the entire town is in on the deal. The SHR is aware of Luther (who gave us the Yaad contract) and think he is heading up the problems.

Our knowledge of Midville indicates that there is no overt deal between Yaad and the town. It is peculiar though, that the only work Yaad hired out was the initial land and foundation preparation. After that, no locals have worked on the plant. Yaad claims that it is a fully automated plant. We're not sure why machines in a factory should concern the SHR, but the group decided to talk to Luther after we returned to Midville from Columbus.

Session 3 - Joust night in Columbus

The group spent about a week in Columbus, preparing for the Joust Tournament. Cars were repaired, stripped down, and readied for the joust. This article was found in The Other Paper the day after.

She's no Junk Yard Dog

Columbus, OH - It was a pleasant evening Saturday night at the Fairgrounds. Eight brave souls entered into the monthly Midway Joust event, but only one leave on top. This month, it was Donna "Dodge" Walsh, granddaughter of Pat Walsh who is the owner of Walsh's Junk Yard located in Midville, OH. Perhaps it was growing up around cars that gave Donna the edge to beat out Dave "Dewey" Iron in the final round, but it was just as likely that it was the missing tire on Dewey's ride. Loosing a wheel, skidding sideways and rolling the rest of the way down the track wasn't enough to stop him. He pushed his car back onto its three remaining wheels and went back for more. Dodge showed no mercy, taking out Dewey's other front tire in the second pass, grinding him to a halt.

This wasn't the first time Dewey was without tires. After loosing a wheel to local Chris McCrea in the first pass of the Semi-Finals, Dewey made his way down the track at a blistering 10 MPH and managed to take out Chris with a shot into McCrea's car. Fortunately the medics were able to revive McCrea before he was permanently gone. McCrea wasn't the only near-fatal joust this month. Harvey Wallbanger, teammate of Walsh and Iron exchanged fire with Bradley Stalter, each blowing through the side armor of his opponent. Bradley's shot managed to score a direct hit on Wallbanger's driver seat, ending the joust while narrowly escaping a surely fatal shot from Wallbanger which just missed and hit the other side of Stalter's car.

Walsh made it to the final round with one less joust than her opponent, as Earl Flyn, the fourth teammate from the Yod Motors sponsored team, found himself too intoxicated on the Columbus Brewing Company's local brews to safely participate in the Semi-Final round. Other drivers that resigned include Adam Ponzio and Don Baughman who each lost tires but were not as determined as Iron to continue competing.

The Yod team held both spots in the final round, leaving us to wonder if this a new up-and-coming team. Pit chief Gary (editors note: no last name given) said that this is the team's first trip out under the sponsorship of Yod Motors. They are based in Midville, all working for Pat Walsh in some manner or another, and were noticed by Yod motors in recent amateur night Killer Kart competitions. Looks like this month, the junk yard came out on top.

Session 2 - Yod Factory Tour

After completing the joust event in Columbus, the group secured a transport load and headed back to Midville. We delivered two heavy, sealed boxes to Ralph's Place, where the Ralph told us to just leave them out back and someone would be by to get them.

We also talked to Pat Walsh about the SHR. He knew a little about them, but generally they're a pretty secretive group.

The group went and talked to Luther about the SHR as well. He wrote them off as nutjobs who occasionally needed to be shooed away from the new factory. We pressed him a little on this and got ourselves an invite to the new factory. We were invited a few days later to ride out to the factory. VP at Yod Mara met us in the vehicle that took us out.

The factory was somewhat disguised - the road leading to it was dirt and gravel off of the main road for a while before it was nicely paved. The factory appeared to be surrounded by 10 foot walls, however once in side we realized that the walls were actually the factory itself. There were 4 lines in the factory producing different cars. The line we saw was supposed to be producing Station Wagons, but was currently down. We saw the storage area at the other end where completed cars waited for transport off-site. On our way back through, we saw a peculiar site. Several guards were beating what appeared to be workers. We were rushed out of the factory at that point, but not before noticing that all of those involved in the incident (guards and workers both) looked identical. We knew that cloning was extremely illegal, but decided it best to keep our noses out of the middle of things if we wanted to live and continue to be sponsored by Yod.

Our next event is located just Northwest of Chicago, so we planned our trip that way.

Session 1 - Power Cell Delivery

The team hauled the new power station out to its new location in Indiana. Just as we were backing the trailer into place, we saw some trikes and a car headed our way, guns firing. DUI took one for the team, getting out in front and watching his front armor get obliterated. As the enemies approached, some well placed shots took out the front armor of one trike which Harvey proceeded to splatter all over his windshield. Harvey took out the power plant of a second trike, and brought the driver of the third trike to within inches of death.

After losing both front wheels DUI forced the metal-armor equipped car onto the shoulder and managed to do a single point of damage to his front hub. After the car passed, he took out the two trike riders that were trying to escape into the woods.

A lucky shot from Earl did some damage to the same tire DUI shot at, and an even luckier shot from Gary managed to take out the remainder of the hub and the remainder of the wheel, sending the car into a skid.

With his trike buddies all dead, the car took off on its three wheels and didn't come back.

Salvage

Two trikes, one without power plant. Both sold in Schaumberg, IL.
