English

Hello, & welcome to the English page in my personal site.

Being a Hebrew speaking Israeli, the site is in Hebrew, but here in this page I would like to give the rest of the world - that is - non Hebrew speakers (or just curious Hebrew speakers:) the opportunity to get to know me a bit - & especially - to encounter my activities as a recorder player & creative musician. Therefore I have written here a few words about myself, put in some videos, & in general - displayed my work in those fields. I have also added a few words on other topics.

So - who am I?

My name is Adi Silberberg. I was born is Israel in 1975, & got into music as a young kid. My main instrument was the recorder, & I'm considered now to be one of Israel's top players of the instrument, both in the field of early music (historically informed performance), & in cross-genre styles of music. However, I have a lifetime hobby of playing on various other instruments as well, for example the violin, piano and guitar. I give lessons on these instruments regularly & play them in performances and recordings. Still - my really impressive playing is mainly on the recorder & this instrument is at the center of my career as a musician. This instrument was always there for me: I practiced it regularly since childhood, I studied it (finished my academic studies in Utrecht, Holland), I won prizes with it, recorded it & performed on it on many occasions & that is why I will mostly focus here on introducing what I'm doing with this instrument - both in the field of early music (historically informed performance) & in cross-genre original & originally arranged music.

Let's start with early music.

As I mentioned - I took the course of professional studies in that field & finished my studies in Utrecht,Holland, in 1999. Since then I have been playing with ensembles in Israel - both private initiatives, as well as with some of Israel's leading groups in that field. One group I work with is the Barrocade. This is an excellent Israeli group which performs programs of early music, sometimes in combination with more recently composed music. I've participated in a number of programs with them & one of them is recorded on a CD entitled "Folk Baroque". This CD is a good example of the mix of genres Barrocade creates. It displays hits of all times, played mainly on early music instruments, giving some new & surprising interpretations also to pieces that are not early music pieces. You can get this CD through me of course just write me at

Another great group I work with frequently is the Phoenix. Phoenix's work incorporates both "standard" early music projects, as well as some very unique projects, including a few renewed premieres of forgotten works of early music masters - especially Latin composers.

Here is a video of a very well known Indian tune from one of the programs that involved such Latin early music works - both known & very rare:

Original music

As I mentioned earlier - I'm a creative musician. That means I also compose music, record & perform it with different partners, & many times - give the recorder an important part in it.

One of my major groups is Lyra. Lyra is a small acoustic ensemble with a vocalist, which creates original music - songs in Hebrew & in English – which range from artistic compositions to light tunes, which are influenced by multi cultural ethnic music. You can get a copy of Lyra's E.P from me: adisilberberg@hotmail.com .

Here is a number I wrote & composed entitled "Desert Song" in which the recorder plays a major role:

Another nice example is an electronic based arrangement of a protest song I did few years ago. The song talks about how to make the world a better place. It's anti war, anti religious coercion, & pro freedom, a greener world & responsible behavior. The recorder has some nice passages there:

Another thing I like to do is to compose music for players to perform. Many times I participate in these performances. Here is an example of a movement from such a piece which I composed for (& performed with) Nora Hansen. It's for two alto recorders. No video clip. Click here to download & listen: inventsa.mp3

Original arrangements:

My last video sample on this page is a half improvised arrangement of a traditional Jewish tune, taken from a program in which Vered Forbes, my partner, & myself, explore many aspects that have to do with Jews & Judaism, in relation to tradition, history, music & musicians:
