Kinderpoem
last night as i lay looking
out my window at the sky
i caught a dream come crawling
out the corner of my eye
in scarves of dark it hid quite well
a glowing little light
that tickled me and made me laugh
with wonder and delight
and then into my open mouth
it leaped -- i kid you not!
it mingled with my memory
and tangoed with my thought
and then in one quick instant
we were off into the night
circling the moon and stars
in acrobatic flight
we reached across the universe
and wrestled all in play
and when our arms grew weary
quenched our thirst on milky way
we rode around the galaxies
jeweled carousels of old
at this carnival of light and dark
the depths of space behold
and as we skated to the edge
to test the thinning ether
we broke straight through
and toppled to
where up nor down were neither
then flirting with my fancy
this dream flew my mind away
on wings of golden sunlight
to a land where it was day
and as the smell of morning dew
was rising off the lawn
i awakened in my bedroom
to a splendid summer dawn
as for my friend the dream
who knows what is her lonely plight
perhaps we will meet ne'er again
perhaps we'll meet tonight!
