Final Project Proposal

Project Ideation

1- Tell us about the purpose of your project. Which problem does it solve? Why do you care about this? What were you inspired by? Include images and videos of similar projects

I had a visit to very a unique interactive exhibition called "Dialogue in the Dark,". It was is an exciting life-changing experience where visitors are guided by visually challenged guide firstlt, with minimum sort of light and then to an absolute dark mockups for 3 different daily enviroments (a walk in the park, grocery and clothes shopping, a daily walk on the street and finally, preparing a hot and cold drink on your own and finally have a seat on a cafe learning about braille method). Since then, I've decided that one day i'll do something useful towards easier life for visually challenged people.

INSPIRATIONS

2- Describe the project idea and general features. How would it work?

I would like to to integrate smart home systems that could be added easily to different pieces of furniture, provides user-friendly piece for any user included visually impaired and aged low vision as its function is done through minimal commands that are easy for people to use.

I decided to make a desk lamp like a robot with OLED light source , works in different modes of intensity which are adjusted with a slider + Motor controlled through 2 knobs in one or 2 axis for light source shed itself and rotary for the turning base with motor. Qi-wireless charger pad or charging plug-in might be added on the base of lamp.

3- Sketch your project: You may use pen and paper or a simple sketching tool like Microsoft Paint or Photoshop

Project Planning

4- Describe the Technical Modules that your project consists of

Construction Parts

The enclosure of the lamp will be designed as 2.5D parts using Fusion 360 and fabricated using Laser Cutting , Complementary parts as hinge cover will be 3d printed.

Input

(Sensing, Tactile Input, and/or Graphical Input)

    1. Press:

  • ON/OFF Switch: The lamp will take input from the user when the on/off button is pushed, it works.

    1. Rotate/twist:

  • Joystick or 2 knobs: for moving the lamp shade in 4 directions. (up,down right and left)

    1. Slide:

  • Sliders: for lighting intensity control

Action

(Physical and/or Graphic)

  • Light : OLED or LED strips

  • linear motion in one or 2 axis sorvo motor

  • Rotary motion, turning base rotating using stepper motor

  • Basic Mode: The lamp starts to light up with medium-low intensity , shade is adjusted by user and mobile could be charged using base pad.

  • High intensity mode: The lamp starts to light up with high intensity , shade is adjusted by user and mobile could be charged using base pad.

Brain

Arduino UNO board will be used take inputs and generate actions, might be controlled with mobile app. too

Power Management

  • 9V adaptor

  • USB power supply source + power switch.

  • Lux:

  • Wattage:

5- Create a cardboard prototype of your project, demonstrating the project face as well as internal movements and mechanisms. Include a demo video and photos of the prototype.

Project Face: Tactile Input

6- Categorize your project’s User Features into: Minimum, Complete, and Nice-to-have features. List the required action and input components per feature.

  • Minimum Features: are the least amount of features that would demonstrate the coverage of all the technical modules and their complete integration

  • Complete Features: are the set of features that will complete your original project objective and vision

  • Nice-to-have Features: are the extra set of features that will make the project cooler, yet they need extra time, effort, and/or resources to finish

Minimum User Features

  • A desk lamp works in different modes of intensity which are adjusted with a slide potentiometer + Stepper Motor controlled through joy stick in one axis for light source shed itself and rotary for the turning base with motor.

    • Action: -Light ( LED lighting )

    • Sensing: none

    • User Input: on/off switch to open/close the lamp
