Week 5 - Journal

Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

Inspiration from a YouTube video

We'll build a simple electronic device that performs two actions.

My idea is to make a model of water well, The model has a bucket can go up and down and a lamp for light.

Tool Chain

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

Tinkercad

We used Tinkercad to design and simulate our device circuit.

Cardboard

We used cardboard to assemble my device's components.

glue gun

We used a glue gun to glue my device.

Design/Preparation Process

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

simple sketch

The function of my device is to take water from the well, so the bucket needs to go down and up, and need light to see in the dark.

So I made a simple sketch to know the parts I needed and the dimensions.

Then I opened Tinkercad and start design my circuit, but I couldn't simulate it because I used more than one push button, so I took my components and started assembling.

The components I used:

The Output components

Hobby Gearmotor

The gear motor moves my bucket up and down.

Light bulb

The light bulb to light the area.

The voltage source's

DC adapter (5v)

I used a DC adaptor (5v), so he can be able to move my bucket normal speed.

The Wires

jumper wires (alligator)

I used alligator wires to connect the lamp with on/off switch and make a series circuit.

Jumper wires (MM)

I used MM wires to connect the gear motor.

Other components

I used On/Off rectangular switch to open and close the circuit.

I used four push buttons to control the movement of the gear motor.

screw tirminal plug to female dc adaptor to connect the power to breadboard

Breadboards are used to help me to connect components to complete the circuit.

The Circuit

  • I used 5v adaptor as a voltage source's.

  • I used The H-bridge arrangement so I can reverse the polarity/direction of the gear motor using four push buttons

  • I connected on/off switch with lamp in series with all circuit so I can open and close the circuit.

  • A Tinkercad simulation

Simulate the circuit in Tinkercad

Development/Implementation Process

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

  • Build the circuit with the components using Tinkercad as a reference.

  • I connect the

  • Test the circuit and making sure it working

The electrical circuit on a breadboard

  • Start cut the cardboard using a dimensions device.

  • Assemble the parts together.

  • Add the components to the model

Overcoming Challenges

What kinds of challenges or problems did you face while doing the assignment, tutorials, or exercises? How did you solve them? Did you ask for help from an instructor or peer? Please provide a link to the tutorial or article that you used to solve your problem (if any)

Depending on the design I need to reverse the direction of the gear motor, so I started searching for how to reverse the polarity of motor, I found a Youtube video explain how to do it with H bridge arrangement.

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

I can use many of components I used this week in final project like gear motor to move my project, wires to connect the components, and switches to open and off the project, etc.

WOW!

What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?

The best thing this week is Build a simple Sumo RC Car in lap and fight with it with other teammates.
