Week 3 Journal
Ideation
Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)
This week's assignment is to make our own design of a simple pen and pencil holder on Fusion 360 software and prepare it for cura
Inspiration:
I love geometric shapes a lot so I browsed Google and Pinterest to get inspired by the most suitable design for me.
Tool Chain
Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?
Software
Ultimaker Cura,
It is an open-source slicing software for 3D printers. It opens (.stl) files of the object to-be-printed design and it produces the code which the 3D printer follows to print the model correctly.
This week we're going to use Fusion to design a three-dimensional shape so we can print it on a 3D printer.
Machines
3D Printer ( Prusa i3 mk2 )
Materials
PLA Materials
Design/Preparation Process
Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?
First
I drew a square on the x-y axis
then I made a parallel plane to x- y axis
then I drew the same square in this plane
then I made a loft and twist for the shape
then I opened the shape using a shell command.
then I made a parallel plane to the z- y-axis to draw on the outer shape of the model
Then I painted on the parallel plane of y, and z many oval shapes of different sizes.
then I made an extrude cut
then I made a parallel plane to the z-x-axis to draw on the outer shape of the model
Then I painted on the parallel plane of y, and z many oval shapes of different sizes.
then I made an extrude cut
Then I made an appearance of the shape using colors and materials and fillet for the edges.
finally,
I saved the design in stl format
Summary
First
I drew a square on the x-y axis, then I made a parallel plane, then I drew the same square, and then I made a loft, and then I opened the shape using a shell command.
secondly,
I made a parallel plane to x- z, then I painted a lot of oval shapes of different sizes, and then I worked an extrude cut. Then I made a fillet for the edges.
thirdly
You saved the design in stl format
3D printing processing
1-I Opened the file on the cura
2- I did a shape rotation.
3- I Adjust printing settings (draft, Infill, support)
4- I do a Slice to see how many minutes to print and how many grams
5- I Save the file in the form of g-code
printing settings
Draft : 0.2 mm Infill : 10% Support : NO printing temperature : 215
Development/Implementation Process
Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?
I take the memory card out of the machine and I insert it into my laptop. then I click export G- code from the slicer then I insert the card back into the machine then I wait for a second until the card inserted message appears then I select your file name then I instruct the machine to start printing.

Overcoming Challenges
What kinds of challenges or problems did you face while doing the assignment, tutorials, or exercises? How did you solve them? Did you ask for help from an instructor or peer? Please provide a link to the tutorial or article that you used to solve your problem (if any)
I faced a problem while I was preparing for the 3D printing process when I made a preview of printing it was showing that the edges are not connected to each other and the appearance of holes in the body itself
Solution
I went back to Fusion 360 and reduced the measurement of the fillet in the edges instead of 1 cm to 0.5 cm to avoid the appearance of pieces in the edges during the printing process and also increased the thickness of the hologram as a whole to reduce the openings that appeared in the model during the erasing process
Before modification
After modification
After the 3D printing process, I found that one of the surfaces has defects, as one of the ovals cut in the surface was very large and the angle of inclination was large.
The solution: reduce the aperture so that it adopts the overlap during the printing process, like the figure on the right side

Final Project
How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?
I learned this week how to use Fusion to draw 3D shapes and how to make a movement between the parts.
WOW!
What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?
In the lecture of the week, we divided teams, drew the parts of the logo Minifigure Challenge , and assembled the parts in Fusion 360
