Maker Mindset

Makerspace is more than a space itself, it is a mindset that can and should be taught and cultivated. We have a culture of children who have learned to consume; with a makerspace, we can move beyond consumption to creation!

Our Library Media Specialist is passionate about Makerspaces and Maker mindset. She has been an exhibitor several times at the Dover Mini Maker Faire held annually at the Dover Children's Museum. She has also volunteered in the Collaboratory Makerspace at the Christa McAuliffe Technology Conference.

Although technological tools such as circuiting kits and 3D printers can be wonderful assets in a Makerspace, the focus of the Maker mindset should be to experiment and develop new ways of thinking, and this can be accomplished with a number of different resources and techniques.

We will gladly accept donations of materials from families and businesses as we develop and grow our makerspace at Northwood. Even items such as paper towel tubes are useful! Please see our Maker Space wishlist in the link below, or contact Erin Mawn directly if you'd like to know more about this idea.
