Find a Program

Mount Holyoke students may choose to study abroad with one of the College’s own programs and exchanges, or on one of the more than 150 other programs and universities that we approve for credit transfer. What's the difference?

The approved program list includes all program types and provides a comprehensive list of all programs that are approved for study abroad during the semester or academic year. The McCulloch Center does not maintain a list of approved short-term and summer programs; students can request approval for short-term and summer programs on a case-by-case basis.

MHC Programs and Exchanges

Mount Holyoke offers a number preferred study abroad programs. The MHC Joint BA/MA program in Geneva allows students to complete a BA and an MA in five years, instead of the usual six years. Reciprocal student exchanges are also available at a variety of universities: Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea;  Hong Kong University, Japan Women's University in Tokyo; Berlin School of Economics and Law and University of Leipzig in Germany; and various universities in the United Kingdom.

Short-term & Summer Programs

Mount Holyoke offers a small number of short-term courses and exchange opportunities abroad during the summer. Mount Holyoke may nominate up to three students to study on exchange at the Berlin School of Economics and Law the summer program.  Students may also participate in short-term and summer programs abroad sponsored by other colleges and universities.

Field Study Programs

The McCulloch Center has identified courses that have a rigorous academic basis with an embedded experiential learning component. This is an excellent opportunity for students to enrich their time abroad while gaining experience, skills, and perspectives that will advance their academic program and career planning--including completing or partially completing a Nexus.  Students can contact the McCulloch Center for guidance on which programs offer an experiential learning component that is eligible for credit transfer.  For example, SIT programs include an independent study project or internship and select programs by, Advanced Studies in England, CET,  CIEE and IES offer internships that are eligible for credit.

Domestic Study Away

The McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives is responsible for study abroad programs outside of the United States. However, Mount Holyoke does offer some domestic study away opportunities such as the MHC Semester in DC Program, coordinated by the Weissman Center for Leadership. The Division of Student Success/Office of Academic Deans coordinates all other applications for full-time study away in the United States, such as the Twelve College Exchange Program, SEA Semester, Semester in Environmental Science at the Marine Biological Laboratory, and Semester Cinema. For more information about domestic opportunities, the domestic program approval process and deadlines, review the information under the Academic Leave Policies tab on Mount Holyoke College's website about the Leave of Absence Policy.
