Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO)

Are you an African American student that is passionate about a special talent you have?

Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is an enrichment and competition program for high school students who would like to showcase their special skills! ACT-SO partners with the The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to provide opportunities for youth of African American descent.

Students may compete in various categories including, sciences, humanities, performing arts, visual arts, entrepreneurship and culinary arts.

The categories are:

  • STEM: Architecture, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth/Space Science, Engineering, Math, Medicine/Healthcare, Physics, Microbiology, Biochemistry

  • HUMANITIES: Music Composition, Original Essay, Playwriting, Poetry (written), Short Story

  • PERFORMING ARTS: Dance (ballet, contemporary, modern, traditional), Dramatic Arts (acting), Instrumental Music (classical, contemporary), Vocal Music (classical, contemporary), Oratory, Poetry (performance)

  • VISUAL ARTS: Drawing, Filmmaking/Video, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Architecture

  • ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Business

  • CULINARY ARTS: Cooking
