Matawan-Aberdeen Special Olympics Club

Our Mission

Special Olympics is a sports training and athletic competition program which provides year-round opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports.

Advisors/Coaches: Mr. Ed Barrett and Mrs. Melanie Schueller

About US

Our athletes participate in bowling, basketball skills and track and field competitions against other athletes of similar age and ability.

We typically practice once per week and keep records of times, scores, distances etc, which are later used for competition seeding.

Special Olympics not only provides athletes with physical activity, it gives them an opportunity to engage in competition and forge wonderful friendships!

Members Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians;

Welcome to Matawan-Aberdeen Special Olympics. We have the pleasure of participating in the Area 6 division of Monmouth and Ocean counties. Our athletes have the opportunity to practice and compete in bowling events during the winter season. During the spring, our team participates in basketball skills and track and field. Our program provides a wonderful opportunity for out student-athletes to work hard and engage in competition against other student-athletes of the same age and ability. Most importantly, the athletes are able to exercise sportsmanship, teamwork and form friendships that last a lifetime!

Please see the attachments in our links section. The Special Olympics Participation Packet must be filled out and the athletes must have a school-approved physical on file with the Athletic Office. Please contact Ed Barrett or Melanie Schueller with any questions.

We look forward to fun-filled and successful Special Olympics seasons!

Sincerely,

Coaches
