End of Year Clean Up- Google Classroom

I shamelessly stole this from the great and powerful Michelle Mathias- Middle School Technology Specialist. Thanks so much to her!!!

  1. Return all assignments.

When a student turns in an assignment, Google automatically changes the permission so the teacher becomes the owner and the student as a viewer of the document. When you are done grading the assignment, make sure you return the files back to the students so you can revert the ownership back to them.

Alternative: You may also delete the Classroom folders permanently by going to your My Drive > Classroom and deleting the folders labeled with your class name. Please DO NOT DELETE THE MAIN CLASSROOM FOLDER.

IMPORTANT: Please note that if the turned in assignments are deleted, it will also be deleted in the student's portfolio site if they have embedded it in their portfolio.

2. Archive your Google Classroom.

Archive your class at the end of the school year. Once a class has been archived, you and your students will not see the class in Classroom's main page. You and your students will still be able to view it (but not edit) by going to the Classroom Menu and then clicking Archived Classes. See tutorial. ---->

3. Make a Copy of your Class in Google Classroom.

You can also create a copy of your Classroom and use it as a template for next school year. When you copy a Class, you will also create copies of the assignments and save it as drafts that will only be visible to you until you re-use it with your students. See print tutorial. ----->

Alternatively, you can just Archive your Class and then manually copy and paste any assignments that you would like to reuse.

  1. Click the 3 Dots next to your Class name and then click Copy.

2. Edit the Name and Section of your Class. Click Copy. You can leave Classroom. while the Class is being copied. You will receive an email notification once the copying is done.

4. 'Hide' your Old Classroom Assignment sub-folders in Drive.

If you have already archived your classes in Google Classroom but all of your Assignment folders are still visible in the Master Classroom folder in Drive, you can move these assignment folders and 'hide ' it. DO NOT DELETE your MASTER CLASSROOM FOLDER. To hide the previous assignments, create a new folder INSIDE the Master Classroom folder, call it Archived Assignments and then move the Assignments subfolders there. See tutorial below.

  1. Create a new folder INSIDE the Master Classroom folder and call it Archived Assignments.

DO NOT DELETE the Master CLASSROOM FOLDER.

3. Select the Archived Assignments folder and then click Move.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all your old Assignments have been moved to the Archived Assignments folder.

2.Right-click the Assignment folder that you wish to hide and then click Move to.
