4th-6th Grade

5th and 6th grade students are learning how to code LEGO education EV3 robotics.

5th and 6th grade students learned about wind energy and wind turbines while participating in KidWind project and challenge. We started our project with SFU KidWind event. Next, students researched to learn about wind energy, conducted a controlled experiment with wind turbine blades and applied engineering design process to create their own wind turbines. On March 28th, we had four teams participated in Pennsylvania KidWind challenge at the PSU main campus. They presented their wind turbines and knowledge to the judges. Our teams took 4th, 12th, 15th and 19th place out of 23 teams. Congratulations to our teams for their participation and an outstanding performance for their first year!

5th and 6th grade students are learning about balance, forces, engineering design process, civil engineering, problem solving and collaboration with the "Engineering is Elementary" unit, "To Get to the Other Side: Designing Bridges".

4th grade students are learning about energy and green engineering. Before designing their solar ovens, our little scientists are experimenting to find out which material (felt, foam, etc.) is a good thermal insulator. They are collecting, recording and analyzing data-temperature change for different materials in every 30 seconds.
