Reading Tips, Tricks, & Tools

Tips and Tricks for Reading Each Day:

  • Set-up a fun and cozy reading space to enjoy a good book

  • Set a specific time each day for reading (during afternoon snack time, after homework, after school activities, before bed, etc..)

  • Set a timer for reading! Try to work your student up to at least 30 minutes a day by gradually increasing the time by 2 or 5 minute increments.

  • Encourage your student to read with a grown-up, sibling, pet, or stuffed animal

  • Have your student talk with a grown-up or sibling about his/her reading once finished

  • Pick a family book to read together. This can be a "dessert" book (books that might be higher or lower than his/her current level)

  • Alternate reading aloud and in your head

  • Find an amazing book series to enjoy!

  • Try an audiobook
