Course Description:

Course Goals and Outcomes:

○ The health curriculum will address various competencies addressed by the South

Carolina Academic Standards

■ Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease

prevention to enhance health.

■ Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology,

and other factors on health behaviors.

■ Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information, products, and

services to enhance health

■ Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to

enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

■ Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making to enhance health.

■ Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

■ Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and

avoid or reduce health risks.

■ Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and

community health.


Course Outline/Pacing/Scope and Sequence:

Students will work throughout the semester to complete the Online Health

Curriculum, which covers health and wellness, risk factors, nutrition, body

weight/composition, body image, physical fitness, sleep, hygiene and healthcare,

tobacco, alcohol, medication and drugs, infectious and noncommunicable diseases,

mental/emotional health, stress, and conflict management.


Classroom Expectations:

○ Chromebook is charged and ready for use daily.

○ Works diligently and completes all classwork each day.

○ Interacts with the class, participates in discussion.

○ Follows instructions, and is prepared for the next day’s activity by paying attention

to the plan that is discussed at the end of the previous day.


Grading Policy/Practices:

○ Student progress will be cumulatively assessed each nine weeks based on the

following methods of evaluation.

○ Daily assignments/Class Participation 40%

○ Unit Tests (Written) 60%


Late Work Policy:

10 points off per day, max of 60 if turned in by end of unit, max of 50 if turned in

after the unit


Missed Work/Make-Up Work Policy:

Check Google Classroom, communicate with the instructor about what work was

missed and when it should be turned in by. When in doubt, plan on 1 missed day

means the work is due within one day of returning to school.
