Overview of Health and Physical Educaiton

Health:

Essential Health Skills textbook provides the skills and information students need to make responsible decisions and promote a lifetime of health and wellness. Students will have the opportunity to practice their health skills in a variety of contexts, related to the subjects that most apply to their lives. Content and skills align to the National Health Education Standards. By studying this text, students will be empowered to advocate for every area of their health, now and in the future.


Physical Education:

The Physical Education Program is student centered.  It is designed to allow each student the opportunity to develop the knowledge and the skills necessary to maintain a physically active and healthy lifestyle, and to meet the state standards required for Physical Education I.  During this course students will participate in FitnessGram pre/post testing, individual/team sports and physical conditioning which will involve a cardiovascular program and circuit training.  Students will also have the opportunity to take an online Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention course and will learn Hands Only CPR and AED Awareness through the American Heart Association.  In addition, the district will offer a unit in Sexual Health and Responsibility Education.
