Syllabus

In physical education class, we focus on health and fitness, introducing movement concepts and practicing motor skills. In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles, we learn team-building concepts and social skills through a variety of games and activities.


The PE objectives are based on the National Standards for Physical Education:

1.) Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

2.) Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

3.) Participates regularly in physical activity.

4.) Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

5.) Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

6.) Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expressions and/or social interaction.

Class Requirements :

Students need to come to class on his or her designated P.E. days in the appropriate clothing. In addition to wearing tennis shoes, students should also wear clothing that is conducive to physical activity (no skirts, dresses, low-waist pants, or other items which violate the school dress code).We will spend most days inside with the exception of days when a larger area is needed. Finally, if a student is unable to participate in physical education due to medical reasons, the student must provide a note of excuse from a parent or guardian. For long-term situations, a doctor's note with specific instructions regarding limitations is needed.


Grading Scale:

Students in physical education classes in Greenville County are graded using the following scale:

Q = Quality

M = Meets Standards

P = Progressing

L = Little or No Progression

Assessment Tools :

A variety of informal and formal assessments will be used for skill assessment, including rubrics, checklists, worksheets, video, teacher and peer assessment. Students will use pedometers in class. Students will also have wellness/health and fitness-related projects throughout the school year. Students are expected to participate in every class and will receive a participation grade that will factor into their final nine week grade.
