Our class is a multi-categorical self-contained special education class that serves students in grades 6-8. Our students receive modified instruction in all content areas- (math, science, social studies, and ELA) in our classroom related to their specific academic needs and go to related arts classes with general education peers. Students are assessed and then placed in academic learning groups based on levels to help tailor their instruction to optimize learning for all students. We use a variety of instructional strategies such as whole class instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction to ensure all students receive the most appropriate instruction. We also work on life/social skills in our classroom, such as cooking, budgeting, and community learning. Speech therapy is also provided for students who qualify. These services are provided in individual or small group settings.
