My Donor's Choose Project for Graphic novels in the classroom!
Each novel chosen is linked to a different culture or significant time in history- represented visually. Graphic Novels like the Maus Collection by Art Spiegelman represent the past in an new and innovative way. This book tells the story of those persecuted in the Holocaust in a artful and sensitive way for students to understand. Our Unit will be looking at the "Legacies of the Past" which can be both good and bad.
These books will provide my students with new perspectives on history and research in a new innovative way!
The students will be able to choose the graphic novel that most interests them to read in literature circles. This will engage both readers and non-readers alike in historical topics that they are interested in.
The students will then begin research of their own on a specific event or movement in the past that has left a lasting legacy and create their own graphic representation.
Literature Circle books:
- March (Trilogy Slipcase Set)
- The Complete Maus
- Boxers & Saints Boxed Set
- The Complete Persepolis
- The Unwanted: Stories of the Syrian Refugees
