Art I
Description of Course
The introductory course provides students with visual problem-solving experiences in two and three-dimensional media, stressing art elements (line, shape, form, value, color, space, and texture) and design principles (proportion, emphasis, harmony/unity, balance, rhythm/movement, contrast, repetition/pattern, and variety). Emphasis is placed on the development of basic skills. No prerequisite is required for this course.
REQUIRED: Sketchbook (100 pages, 9 X 12, SPIRAL BOUND). NOT Glue bound pads or perforated pages, these come apart within a week or two and the pages fall out. The sketchbooks are used on a daily basis so they need to be sturdy to last the year.
Optional Supplies:
A box of Pencils, an eraser and a pencil sharpener (Ticonderoga pencils are suggested and factis erasers)
Pencil case or labeled zip lock bag (with the student’s name on it)
*A box of 12 oils pastels. You may purchase a larger set if you desire. We supply some, but it is always good for the students to have their own. They take care of them much better and they will have the exact colors each time they need them.
*A box of 12 Colored pencils. You can get a larger set if you desire. Prismacolor are the best and are a bit more expensive. Crayola brand is ok. DO NOT get erasable colored pencils. They are not good for this class. They do not have quality color and are bland. We supply Crayola colored pencils. Again if the students have their own, they take care of them and will have the exact colors each time they come to class.
