Syllabus

I provide special education services for the students on my caseload within their general education classrooms, within my own classroom, and virtually. With this in mind, I follow the grade level syllabus summaries that are posted on individual teacher web sites.

This year, I am working in or with students from 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th Grade classrooms. My work involves ensuring that students on my caseload are progressing in the general education curriculum in Reading, Writing, and Math and making progress toward meeting their IEP goals.

The actual work can take many forms, depending on the specific needs of my students. For example, I might work with a small group of students during Math guided practice to reinforce and/or reteach newly introduced skills. During reading, I may work with a small group of students on using reading strategies through the group reading of a book club novel. Writing help for my students could take the form of individual or group help with composing, revising, and/or editing their written work.

I follow the same schedule every day, but the work I do with students on my caseload varies from day to day, depending on student needs. Every day I walk a fine line, determining student needs and providing help. It is important that I not provide too much help, thus enabling students to be less independent. My goal for all students on my caseload is for them to experience success with as much independence as possible.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how special education services are provided to your child.
