About the teacher…

It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to share my love of music and string playing with the students of Beck Academy . I come to you with over 30+ years of teaching experience ranging from beginning to advanced levels. Over the years my student ensembles from South Carolina have performed at and for events such as the SCMEA Convention, Converse College Chamber Music Competitions, WYFF Golden Apple Awards, Clemson University and the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce. My students have consistently won superior and excellent ratings at festivals and held chairs in the Regional and All-State Orchestra Programs. Many students from my private studio have pursued professional careers in music. My training includes a BM in Music Education from the Hartt School of Music and an MM in Chamber Music from the University of Connecticut, where I received a full scholarship as a member of the Graduate String Quartet in Residence. Upon graduation, I won a position as Principal Second Violin of the Mississippi Symphony, taught in the Jackson Public Schools and helped to revitalize the Jackson Youth Orchestra, serving as co-conductor. Performance opportunities have taken me to Italy and Costa Rica. I look forward to working with your student and becoming a part of your school community in the 2015-16 school year. I am a 30 year member of Greenville Symphony having servied as Assistant Principal Second Violin for 25 years, and currently a section player.

I have had the the honor of performing twice in the Greenville Symphony Orchestra concert featuring renowned cellist, Yo Yo Ma.

I am Past- President of the SC Chapter of the American String Teachers Association, and former conductor of the Greenville County Philharmonic Youth Orchestra retiring from that position in 2015 after a 10 year stint. In April 2010, I was invited to conduct the Mississippi All State String Orchestra. In June 2012, I attended a conference in Washington DC to study the art of baroque performance on modern instruments and played with the conference orchestra at George Washington University Mt. Vernon Campus. In June 2013, I performed in Greenville for the National Convention of Women's Music Clubs with the Rosebank Trio. In 2016, I attended the Texas Orchestra Directors Association annual convention in San Antonio, Tx in order to learn about and stay current with string teaching methodology.

I am married to Dr. Gary Robinson, who is a winds, brass and percussion teacher at the Greenville County Fine Arts Center and conductor emeritus of the Greenville County Young Artist Orchestra after 30 years of service. We are the parents of two daughters, violinist, Chloe Robinson Groth, a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio and Caroline, a graduate of Wade Hampton HS and the Fine Arts Center. Caroline was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study the pipe organ in France, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

Gary and I are the proud grandparents of John Henry and Ellison Eugene Groth!
