Greenville County Schools Programs

Greenville County Twilight School

The GCS Twilight School program is designed for students who have failed a class or need credits to graduate with their class. Students must be at least 15 years old, have an acceptable discipline record, and be currently attending their home-based school or a career center for at least half a day each school day. Dedicated teachers provide a blended learning experience focusing on English, math, or science units via Odysseyware-online curriculum. Greenville County Virtual School Program

The GCS virtual school program consists of academic courses that students take online via the internet to earn credits toward a South Carolina high school diploma. 7th-12th grade students who are enrolled in a regular school are eligible to apply. All classes require a fee and are taught by experienced teachers who are certified in their respective subject areas. Students are responsible for logging on to read class material, complete assignments, and to take quizzes. Most classes are semester-length. Each semester has a published start and end date, and classes are not self-paced. GCVP is a program of Greenville County Schools and does not award high school diplomas. Virtual SC (VSC)

VirtualSC partners with public, private, and home schools to provide free individualized online learning solutions for students on the path to high school graduation. VSC serves students in grades 9-12. Rigorous online courses for initial credit or credit recovery are taught by highly-qualified South Carolina certified teachers. Pregnant & Parenting Students (PPS)

Pregnant and parenting students attending their home-based or choice schools will have access to a full range of available course offerings as well as a greater array of support services. Social Workers assist these students to assess their individual needs and connect them with school district and community resources and services. Periodic seminars and programs will be offered to provide information on topics such as parenting, child care, budgeting, health, safety and services that are available to pregnant and parenting students and their children. The goal of this new model is to improve grade promotion and graduation of pregnant and parenting students. For information, contact Tiffany Whitney at 355-2989

Special Education Services:

Greenville County Schools remains ready to provide special education services to any student who has been determined eligible for special education services until exceeding the age of eligibility. Upon reenrollment in Greenville County Schools, a new IEP will be developed as soon as possible. Contact Special Education Services at 864-355-3395 for any questions or for additional information.

Medical Homebound Instruction

Students who cannot attend public school because of an acute or chronic medical condition may be eligible for medical homebound instruction. A physician must first certify that the student is unable to attend school but may benefit from instruction given in the home. Instruction is conducted by a certified teacher approved by the district. Any student participating in medical homebound instruction must first be approved by the district designee. Home Schooling

Parents may home school through the school district by completing an application and providing a copy of their high school diploma or GED to the Home School Office. The instructional day must be at least four and one-half hours, and the instruction year is at least one hundred eighty days. South Carolina Connections Academy (SCCA) K-12

South Carolina Connections Academy is a virtual educational program that serves South Carolina students in grades K-12. The program is a free public charter school that students attend from home. South Carolina Charter Virtual School is a free online public school that serves South Carolina students in grades K-12. Adult Education Options (GED and High School Diploma)

Lifelong Learning Adult Education -DIPLOMA and GED - 206 Wilkins Street, Greenville 29605

Lifelong Learning is the adult education division of Greenville County Schools. Programs are for adults who want to continue their basic education. Students may enroll 3 months prior to their 17th birthday in some instances with a recommendation from their school. Each student has his/her own education plan. Students can work toward a high school diploma or prepare to take the GED test. Classes are available at several locations during the day and in the evening. Greenville County Schools - Satellite Diploma Program -DIPLOMA

The GCS Satellite Diploma Program offers an opportunity for qualifying students to earn a High School Diploma using virtual instruction in an Adult Education setting. The program is cost-free and limited transportation is available, but space is extremely limited. Students must contact their guidance counselor to see if they qualify. United Ministries Adult Education and Employment Readiness -GED

United Ministries provides a free nontraditional GED program for students who are 17 & older. Staff and volunteer teachers work one-on-one with students to get ready for the GED. Students attend as often as they can for help preparing for the GED at their own pace and new students are accepted daily. After obtaining a GED, United Ministries will assist students with college and job training opportunities. Testing / Study Hours: Mon/Tu/Th: 8am-7pm & Wed: 8am-12noon. Greenville Literacy Association -GED

The Literacy center offers 12 week GED preparation classes at 5 different locations in Greenville County. Cost is $20/year. Daytime and Evening Classes available. Goodwill Industries of the Upstate WIOA -DIPLOMA and GED

The WIOA Youth Program provides free case management and support services for job-seeking youth (ages 18-24) who live in Greenville County. Funded by the Greenville County Workforce Development, the WIOA Program offers paid educational development (GED/Diploma programs), work readiness training, opportunities for work experience and manufacturing training, certification opportunities, and assistance with transportation and child care costs.

YouthBuild Greenville -GED

YouthBuild Greenville helps young adults (age 17-24) attain education and skills for a career in the construction industry. Training includes GED instruction, paid stipends, construction training and certification, paid work experience through Habitat for Humanity, and assistance with transportation and child care. Wil Lou Gray – Opportunity School -GED

Wil Lou Gray is a structured, residential, military-style environment that emphasizes both academic and life-skills education. Specializing in helping at-risk young people (ages 16 through 19) move past the obstacles in their lives to achieve success. Wil Lou Gray helps prepare and register students for the GED.

South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy –GED

Operated by the SC National Guard, the SC Youth Challenge Academy serves at-risk youth ages 16-18 that are looking for an alternative program focusing on education and life skills. This 22 week commitment allows students to work toward earning their GED while also focusing on health and hygiene, job skills, life coping skills, physical fitness, community service, and responsible citizenship. Job Corps (Bamberg Job Corps Center) -GED

Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 learn a trade, earn a high school diploma or GED and get help finding a good job. Students are paid a monthly allowance; the longer a student stays in the program, the more the allowance will be.
