Classroom Rules and Expectations

Rules for Student Behavior

Our class will follow the school-wide Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct was explained and discussed during the first week of school. The Code of Conduct is as follows:

1. I am responsible for myself, my actions, and my choices.

2. I always come prepared to learn.

3. I will respect everyone in my school with my speech and actions.

4. I will follow directions politely the first time they are given.

5. I will keep my hands, feet and all objects to myself.

Individual Plan:

Individual infractions of the code of conduct will be recorded using a clip system at the front of the room.

If a student does not follow the code of conduct, she will clip down. Students can also receive positive clip-ups for being ready, responsible, and respectful (see appendix for PBIS Matrix). Students will take home a behavior report daily. If necessary, Ms. Ripple will phone parents of inappropriate behavior.

If a student follows all the rules:

v Daily – The student will receive “Husky Bucks” according to PBIS and other rewards/prizes.

v Quarterly – The student will be eligible to be chosen for the Terrific Kids Award or Principal’s Award.

On occasion, a student will be given a behavior contract and an individual behavior plan. This plan will be implemented in the case that an inappropriate behavior is exhibited consistently by the same student. Parents will always be notified when a behavior contract and plan is to be used with their child.

Whole Class Plan: PBIS

School climate is a priority at Hollis Academy; it is one of the top three goals of our school.

What is PBIS? Put simply, it is a proactive approach to school-wide discipline. This initiative is meant to reinforce the positive behaviors of students doing what is expected of them as well as supporting students who need extra assistance to reach the school wide expectations of being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. Since beginning the PBIS initiative during the 2006-2007 school year, we have observed many positive results from the program, which has increased the amount of instructional time our students receive. In the appendix, you will find a copy of the matrix for classroom expectations as well as other areas of the school. When students are observed exhibiting the expected behaviors, they are given Husky Bucks which can be traded in for prizes. When an entire class is caught following all the expectations, they are given a class “growl”. Classes compete to see who can acquire the most “growls”.
