I enjoy mathematics and computing. As a high school teacher I have taught mathematics and computer science at Mauldin High School, the Louisiana School for Math and Science, Greenville High School, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, and J. L. Mann Academy.

My Middle School tenure includes two years at Hughes Academy and six years at Beck Academy.

This is my fourth year at Sterling where I will teach Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra I.

I am also the Coach for the Sterling MathCounts Teams: Grades 5-6 and Grades 7-8.

During the summers, from 1979 until 2008, I taught at the Governor’s School at the College of Charleston. The courses I have taught over the years include Discrete Mathematics, BASIC Programming, Pascal Programming, C++ Programming, Java Programming, and Web Design using HTML

I have served as a consultant on several of College Board’s math and computer science committees including SAT, PSAT, Computer Literacy, AP Calculus, and AP Computer Science.

I am married to Barbra Almeter Butler who recently retired from teaching at Brook Glenn Elementary.

I have three children: Saja, a Musician and Teacher in Colorado; Horatio, a Teacher and Artist in Maryland; and Alex, an Air Force Major in Alabama.

I am also the proud grandfather of four of the most talented young ones in the USA: Abubakari, Kamaria, and Ifetayo -- all in Maryland; and Anna -- in Alabama.
