Welcome to Math 7 and Math 7/8

Classroom Expectations

Welcome to Math 7 and Math 7/8. I am excited about teaching Math 7 and Math 7/8 this year and I am looking forward to knowing and working with each student.

As part of my teaching philosophy I believe learning happens not only individually but within a team setting in the classroom. It is also important that to be successful and attain Mastery in mathematics, that each parent help their student to have a place and time at home to study and complete required assignments. With both daughters having gone through Riverside Middle and now at Riverside High, I know students need help with time management, self advocating for themselves when things get hard, study skills, prioritizing tasks, social skills and character development to make them ready for tomorrow.

SUCCESS AND MASTERY IN MATH

For mastery in mathematics it is important students go over their classwork after school and keep up with their homework assignments. All weekly homework assignments can be found on the last column of the planner titled "homework" and the weekly planner can be found on my RMS website. Students can look at the titles of the workspaces on their Mathia to ensure that what they have completed, aligns with the titles assigned on the planner. Test dates will also be found on the weekly planner and a study guide posted on Google Classroom the week of the test. It is really important that students complete the study guide and correct their work in class when we are reviewing the study guide and then go back and relearn problems that they got incorrect. Submitting the study guide may count as a few points towards a test. Students also need to go back and look at the weekly and daily work to study for the test. If your student misses class for any reason please have them get with me during Flex after they return to make up missing work. Flex hours are during 8:30 through 9:00am and are used for tutoring and making up work.

As part of a good start please make sure that your student checks the weekly planner within this site on a regular basis for Mathia homework assignment due dates.  We will continue to use the Carnegie Curriculum and Mathia this year.

This year Office Hours for MATH HELP will be at 8:15am thru 8:30am and students will need to notify their Flex teachers if they wish to continue to work with me during Flex from 8:30 to 9:00am. Please have your student email me or let me know when they need that additional help so I can plan to tutor them. Thank you for this opportunity to teach your student and if you need to reach me, please email me and I will get back with you within 24 hours.
