Class Expectations

Common Rules and Consequences

Rules:

1. All students must arrive to class on time. Students are to be inside of the classroom when the tardy bell rings.

2. Show respect to others through actions and demeanor.

3. Treat all classroom equipment and supplies with respect.

4. Absolutely no food or drinks allowed beyond the cafeteria exceptwater.

5. Remain engaged without disruption.

Consequences:

  • Warning in class
  • Teacher conference with student after class and parent contact
  • Before school detention and parent contact
  • Written Referral and removal from class

After receiving a warning,student may receive lunch detention (Failure to attend on time will result in a referral)

Any severe disruptions will result in immediate referral to an Assistant Principal or Counselor.

A student caught cheating on an assignment or assessment will receive a zero and his or her parent will be contacted.

Cell Phone Policy:

Algebra 1 is a device free class unless the whole class is participating in a BYOD activity. If your cell phone is visible or being used in class without permission, a referral will be written and you will receive after school detention. This is a school policy and will be enforced.

Procedures for a Successful Environment:

Entering the room

  • Get your supplies out for class and check the "Get Me" basket.
  • Review the agenda and begin your Starter work.
  • Take out any homework from the previous day
  • Turn in any late work. (It must have my initials and date on it.)
  • Please sharpen pencils before class.

Homework Policy

Homework is essential for student success. Homework will be assigned daily and will follow the policy below;

  • All problems must be copied from the textbook or handout onto notebook paper in your binder.
  • All process work must be displayed. No work, no credit. The student name, date, and assignment must be on the paper.
  • Student homework will be graded using different methods, including homework quizzes. (Given after homework is corrected.)

After an Absence

  • Make arrangements to take any test, quiz, or other assignment you missed from class.
  • If you miss a review day, you are still expected to take the test on the day it is assigned. Reviews are on my web page.
  • You will have five days to make-up what you missed; Consult me about special circumstances.
  • After five days, you may not make arrangements and your grade for the assignment will be recorded as a zero.
  • Assignments due during your absence should be turned in immediately upon your return to class. Homework guidelines apply.
  • Consult the class website to find a copy of the class notes and homework from the lesson(s) you missed.

Late Work

Late Work Assignments not turned in by the due date are subject to the following grading:

  • Assignments will drop 10 points for every school day it is late, and will only be accepted up to 5 school days late. If work is not completed after 5 school days, then students will be referred to Mrs. Carter and/or Mr. Foster. (FA only)
  • Late work must have my signature to receive the appropriate credit.

Class Dismissal

  • We work bell to bell. I will dismiss you, with a smile and a "Have a nice day."
  • Please do not begin packing up before the bell.
  • Please stay in your seat until you are dismissed.
  • Please turn in calculators the last 5 minutes of class.

Moving Around the Room

  • During lectures and discussions, always ask permission before leaving your seat. (raise your hand)
  • During cooperative work or ISN activities, move quickly to your new seat or to get necessary materials.
  • Cooperative groups will be chosen for you on most occasions.
  • Papers will be turned into the "Turn In" basket, unless otherwise notified.
  • Please listen for teacher quiet ques.

WHHS Tardy Policy

  • If you are late to class or go to the bathroom,locker or water fountain, you have used a tardy.
  • When a tardy is used, you must sign the tardy sheet.
  • A referral will be written for students who do not sign the tardy sheet.
  • Tardy # 4-5: One hour after or before school detention
  • Tardy # 6+ : Referral

Extra Help

Test Information

  • Practice tests will be given for every major assessment. “The practice test is the scrimmage, the test is the game.”
  • Practice tests are not accepted for a late grade. They are due on test day.
  • Corrections/re-dos are not allowed on major assessments unless the teacher feels it is necessary.
  • Corrections may be required and counted as a minor assessment.
  • For minor assessments (quizzes), there will be opportunities to improve the grade.

Extra Credit

  • At my discretion, extra credit assignments may be made available to all students.
