Different Types of Scholarships

1.) Merit-based - Based on academic performance or extracurricular activities (ex. GPA, test scores, volunteer hours, etc).

2.) Need-based - Based on financial need

3.) Specific Scholarships - Based on the student meeting certain criteria, such as nationality, gender, religion, race, special needs, etc.

** Each college or university offers their own version of each of these scholarships, so be sure to check out the websites of colleges you are interested in.

** South Carolina also offers state lottery scholarships based on GPA and class rank: Hope, Life, Palmetto Fellows

** Scholarships provide money for college that you do not have to pay back.
