Class Policies

Beginning Class - Students should enter the classroom with all of their materials and go directly and quietly to your assigned seat. Students shall be seated upright and feet should not be placed on top of desks. Place your book bags/personal items under your table so that it allows for walking around the room.

What to do first in class -

1. Begin work on the First Task/Starter assignment posted on the board.  Pick up any materials from the front table if they are out.

Announcements – There is to be NO talking during announcements, the moment of silence, or the Pledge of Allegiance. You are asked to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bathroom Passes – Students will need to fill out a bathroom pass using the Smart Pass system on their chromebooks after receiving permission to use the restroom.  Students will raise their hand with the first 2 fingers crossed as a signal they need to use the restroom.  Try not to leave during times when the teacher is giving instructions or conducting a lesson.

Behavior – Proper behavior is expected at all times. Any horseplay or misbehavior will not be allowed. Please keep your hands to yourself.

Cell Phones - Cell phones are to be off and put inside of the student’s book bag or other type of bag. Cell phones should not be visible during any part of the school day (so not in your back pocket or pocket of your sweatshirt)

Class Dismissal – The teacher dismisses the class. Leave your area cleaner than you found it. Push your chair under, place trash in the trashcan, and turn in any assignments on your way out of the door.

Earbuds - Earbuds are not to be worn during class changes or lunch. Earbuds are only allowed to be worn during class for instructional use as directed by your teacher.

Food/Drinks– You may drink water in class. Water bottles should have a spill proof lid. Liquids should never be placed on surfaces with chrome books. For example, water bottles cannot be placed on desks, but need to be placed on the floor. Glass containers are NOT allowed. All trash and spills must be cleaned by the student in order for this privilege to continue.

If the class room phone should ring –Please remain quiet during the phone call.

Lunch –

a. We will eat lunch with our 4th Period classes at an assigned table in the cafeteria.

b. When we enter the cafeteria, proceed to our assigned table and sit down (there are no assigned seats at the table unless behavior requires it).  You will be dismissed to go to the lunch lines.  The class will be dismissed at the end of lunch to throw away trash and leave the cafeteria.

c.  If you need to use the restroom, raise your hand with the same signal used in the classroom and get permission from a teacher.  Get a pass, or wait on the wall for a pass, and use the restrooms at the top of the 8th grade hall.

Makeup Work – Per school policy, all makeup work for excused absences is due within 5 days of return to school. On the day you return, it is your responsibility to make sure to ask for any missing material. Work is posted daily in Google classroom so generally you can complete work at home when out.  Sometimes there may be worksheets handed out that you will need to get when you return.  When you have completed the missing assignments, please turn them into me. You must email the teacher when any late assignments have been submitted.  When announced in advance, tests/projects/assignments are due the day you return from an absence.

Moving in the Hallway - The main hallway is often referred to as "the shared learning zone." Students are expected to be quiet as soon as they leave the 6th grade hallway.

Off-limits areas- You are not allowed to enter any drawers or cabinets unless you are specifically asked to do so. My desk is an off-limits areas.  If I am out of the room or unable to answer the phone if it rings, a student may answer the phone.

Passing in your Work –

Make 100% sure that your paper is labeled with your full name and date. Work without a name cannot be graded.

Questions – Students shall raise their hands and be called upon prior to speaking. Only one person shall speak at a time. Please, ask questions. It is the best way to learn!

Taking a Test – During a test, talking is NOT allowed. Talking will be considered cheating and will result in a GFA and parent contact. Passing notes during a test or test period will also be considered cheating. Looking up answers on the internet is also cheating.  Students computer usage during a test will be monitored using GoGuardian.  When announced in advance, tests are due the day you return from an absence.

Test Retake Policy- No retakes on minor assessments. Test retakes are allowed for major assessments, and the highest grade will be recorded. No minimum grade requirement for test retakes.

Student retakes are not required; however, if the student wishes to retake the major assessment they need to follow the following steps. Student needs to notify the teacher of the desire to retake the assessment BEFORE the assessment is reviewed in the class. Retakes need to be done within two weeks of the first attempt. Retakes will take place during a scheduled time which can be before, after school, and sometimes during 1st Period/Lab time. Before a student can take a retake they must complete a form that tells their previous grade, describes how the student prepared for the test, demonstrates evidence of how the student will prepare for the retake, AND a parent signature.

Toys/Fidget Spinners - Items that cause motion and noise in class are a disruption to the learning environment. They are not permitted in the classroom at any time. If these items are out during class, the teacher will remove them from the student. The student may return at the end of the day to retrieve their item. If this becomes an incident that occurs on multiple occasions, further behavior consequences will be discussed.

Trash – Please keep trash until the end of class to be thrown away as you exit the room. Please do not crumple up paper during class since the noise is distracting; simply fold the paper and set it aside.

Visitors – If class is interrupted by a visitor, students are expected to continue working quietly on assignments or notes. This is NOT an opportunity for you to talk or get out of your seats.

When you Finish Early – When you finish an assignment early, you may catch up on any other work you may need to finish for social studies. If you are finished with all social studies work, you may work on an assignment for another class or read silently.
