About Me

Meet Mrs. Moore

My name is Alexis Moore, and I am honored to have the opportunity to be Monarch's Literacy Specialist. We have amazing teachers and students at our school, and I am so fortunate to get to learn alongside them.

This is my fourth year as a Literacy Specialist and sixth year helping to provide reading interventions. Before focusing on just reading, I taught kindergarten for nine years and first grade for one year. After having my first daughter, Aspen, in 2015, I decided I wanted to step away from full time teaching, and I stepped into the interventionist role part time. I moved to full-time for a few years, and I am returning to part-time this year after having my second child, Rowan, in January 2020.

I graduated from Presbyterian College and got my Masters in Teacher Leadership at Walden University. I spent a year completing Literacy Lessons Teacher Training with the School District of Oconee County through the Reading Recovery Training Center of Clemson University. It was during this course work that I fell in love with the complex art of supporting children as they learn to read.

I believe it is so important to always continue learning new things and searching for ways to become the BEST you that you can be! The only way we grow is to try new things. A couple of years ago I challenged myself to try something totally new....I taught adults for the first time ever! I taught Foundations in Reading and Content Area Reading and Writing for Greenville County Teachers. It's been a step out of my comfort zone, but again, that is how we GROW! This experience helped prepare me to lead monthly professional development sessions here at Monarch around the implementation of Reading Workshop.

This year promises to be full of new learning experiences as well. I look forward to continuing to grow as an educator! I will also be growing as a parent as my daughter starts first grade this year!

My husband is a Social Studies teacher at Sevier Middle School so we get to enjoy our summers together with our daughter who will be seven in May and son who will be two in January. This past summer we drove across 15 states and spent a month living in Colorado! In our free time we love to explore the parks in Greenville, go hiking, read, and just enjoy one another!

My overall goal in reading intervention is to strengthen each child's desire to become a life-long learner by helping them to develop independence, feel successful, and always have fun learning!
