Tips for Getting Through Isolation

  • Keep a Routine- It is important to keep a routine. As much as possible go to sleep at the same time each night & get up at the same time each morning. Eat meals at regular meal times. Maintain family rituals or create new ones, like game night, movie night, dance parties, and other theme days.

  • Stay Positive- Take time to reflect on the positives, the good things that happen every day. You may want to start a gratitude journal or write down the positives in your life.

  • Keep Active- Stay physically active, whether you can get outside or not. You can try yoga videos, play outside, go for a walk, have a dance party, go for a run, exercise in your room, etc.

  • Go Outside- As often as you can get outside, fresh air & a little bit of Vitamin D can make a big difference in improving your mood. You can sit on your front steps, relax on your deck, play in your yard, take a walk, etc.

  • Keep Your Brain Active- Do things that exercise your brain. Reading is a great way to exercise your brain! You might also try playing a board game, doing a puzzle, do some school work, try baking/cooking, make a craft, do something creative like paint, etc.

  • Stay Connected- Social distancing can make people feel lonely, stressed & anxious and make coping more difficult. Taking time to connect with others is so important! Take time to connect with your family members. Even though we cannot engage in our regular social activities we can call, video chat, write a letter, and text our friends & family. Make sure to keep social connections inside and outside of your home.

  • Limit Your COVID-19 Intake- Staying informed and up to date is important during this time, but too much information can increase your anxiety levels. Be cautious with the information that you are taking in and only consult reliable sources, once a day or a couple times a week.
