TRAC Curriculum Map/ IB Learner Profile Alignment

*This curriculum map is tentative and may be adjusted to meet specific school/class needs throughout the school year.

Unit 1: SELF-AWARENESS (September - October)

TRAC Competency: Self-Awareness - The ability to accurately recognize one’s emotions and thoughts and their influence on behavior. This includes accurately assessing one’s strengths and limitations and possessing a well-grounded sense of confidence and optimism.


Self-Awareness May Look Like:

  • Identifying emotions & feelings

  • Having an accurate self-perception

  • Recognizing strengths

  • Values

  • Self-confidence

  • Self-efficacy


Self-Awareness May Sound Like:

  • How am I feeling and why?

  • When am I at my best?

  • When do I feel angry?

Aligned IB Attributes: Reflective and Knowledgeable

  • Reflective: We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.

  • Knowledgeable: We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

Unit 2: SELF-MANAGMENT (November - December)

TRAC Competency: Self-Management - The ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations. This includes managing stress, controlling impulses, motivating oneself, and setting and working toward achieving personal and academic goals.


Self-Management May Look Like:

  • Impulse control

  • Emotional regulation

  • Active listening

  • Stress management

  • Coping strategies

  • Self-discipline

  • Self-motivation

  • Goal-setting

  • Organizational skills

Aligned IB Attributes: Balanced and Inquirer

  • Balanced: We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives - intellectual, physical, and emotional - to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.

  • Inquirer: We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.

Unit 3: SOCIAL AWARENESS (January - February)

TRAC Competency: Social Awareness - The ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures, to understand social and ethical norms for behavior, and to recognize family, school, and community resources and supports.


Social Awareness May Look Like:

Aligned IB Attributes: Open-minded and Courageous

  • Open-minded: We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.

  • Courageous: We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.


Unit 4: RELATIONSHIP SKILLS (March - April)

TRAC Competency: Relationship Skills - The ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups. This includes communicating clearly, listening actively, cooperating, resisting inappropriate social pressure, negotiating conflict constructively, and seeking and offering help when needed.


Relationship Skills May Look Like:

  • Communicator: We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

  • Principled: We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.


Unit 5: RESPONSIBLE DECISION-MAKING (May - June)

TRAC Competency: Responsible Decision-Making - The ability to make constructive and respectful choices about personal behavior and social interactions based on consideration of ethical standards, safety concerns, social norms, the realistic evaluation of consequences of various actions, and the well-being of self and others.


Responsible Decision-Making May Look Like:
