Science in Escondido Union High School District
Vision
EUHSD graduates are lifelong learners of science that use inquiry and evidence to make and justify decisions in their personal and public lives.
Mission
All students have access to all the standards.
Students experience 3-dimensional learning of science through rich performance tasks that provide effective support towards success on the performance expectations.
Teachers and school leaders are actively engaged in collaborative cycles of inquiry to support NGSS instructional practices articulated by our California Science Framework.
English learners and students with special needs have access to high quality supports within a course to meet the expected learning outcomes.
The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are K-12 science content standards that have the ability to transform teaching and learning in the classroom by allowing students to be a scientist. There is a major shift from the memorization of facts to greater student engagement in the processes of science and engineering. The NGSS emphasizes learning in three dimensions: the Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas.
Understanding the California Science Test (CAST)
Parents, Students, and Educators receive score reports from the California Science Test. The CAASPP Starting Smarter Website is an excellent resource to learn more about this assessment and the information it provides to support our science program. On this website you can view example items from the test and learn more about how it communicates information on performance for students.
