Medical Coverage

For exchange students:

  • The EU students must have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). However, this card will not reimburse the integrity of the medical fees. We advise students to take out a private health insurance policy for the remaining costs and more expensive items such as dental or eye care to be covered (in France this is called a “mutuelle”).

  • The non-European exchange students must be covered by a private medical insurance for all the period they are in France. We advise students to take out private health insurance in their home country which is usually cheaper.

For Double-Degree students:

  • The EU students must have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). However, this card will not reimburse the integrity of the medical fees. We advise students to take out a private health insurance policy for the remaining costs and more expensive items such as dental or eye care to be covered (in France this is called a “mutuelle”).

  • The non-European double-degree students have to register at the nearest CPAM to their address in France (more infos on this link). There is no Social Security annual due. However, this card will not reimburse the integrity of the medical fees. We advise students to take out a private health insurance policy for the remaining costs and more expensive items such as dental or eye care to be covered (in France this is called a “mutuelle”). The Office of the Registrar can give you further details.
