Week of April 27th

Remember the activities provided below for certain grades are suggestions only. You might find you want to do a different grade level activity as well as, or instead of your own. :)

Kindergarten and Gr. 1

Toilet Paper Bowling!

*You will need:

-between 6 and 10 full/empty toilet paper rolls, OR between 6 and 10 empty water bottles

-a ball of some kind, OR a *new* full water bottle (so it doesn't leak)

Stack your full toilet paper rolls in a (vertical) pyramid or set out your empty toilet paper rolls or water bottles in a triangular shape on the floor (just like regular bowling pins).

Stand back a few meters and roll your ball or full water bottle toward your toilet paper and see how many you can knock over!

If you knock them all over with only one roll, it's a strike!

If you knock them all over with two rolls, it's a spare!

Gr. 2,3,4,5

Toilet Paper Soccer!

*You will need a full toilet paper roll and an elastic band.

Wrap the elastic band around the toilet paper roll to secure it so the paper doesn't begin to unravel. Feel free to decorate the roll like a real soccer ball if you like. :)

Watch Mr. Wood share with us how to work on some soccer skills - toe taps, dribbling, passing and juggling - using a toilet paper "ball." Then go and try them yourself!

Scroll ahead to 4:00 min to begin. :)

Gr. 6,7

Plank Hockey!

*You will need a partner and a small ball, or a pair of rolled up socks to play this game.

Two players face each other in a plank position.

There are many kinds of plank positions but visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B296mZDhrP4 to see the proper form for the one that works best for plank hockey - high plank. As the video explains if you want to make your high plank easier, go down on your knees. If you want to make your high plank more difficult raise one of your legs at a time.

Once players are in plank position they lift an arm to try and roll the ball / slide the socks between their opponent's arms to score a goal.

Opponents can try to block the ball or socks by grabbing it before it goes between their arms. They then try to score on the other player.

The first player to score 3x wins the game!

Watch the 2 students below attempt to play...

Extra Activity!

Airplane Darts!

*You will need a piece of paper, newspaper, scissors and tape to play this game.

Fold a paper airplane. See the video below if you would like instructions.

Take a large piece of paper (newspaper works well) and cut holes of various sizes in it.

Tape the newspaper high up in a doorway. Stand back and see if you can throw your airplane through the holes!

You can also label the holes with points if you want. The smaller the hole the more challenging it is to send the airplane through, so assign that hole more points than a larger hole. See the example below. :)
