What is Resource?

Students who attend Resource class have been diagnosed with one or more disabilities and have the appropriate documentation showing the disabilities. They each have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that addresses weaknesses through academic and behavioral goals and classroom/testing accommodations. I see most students for one class period a day; however, the students who need more remediation could possibly attend two or three times a day. During class, students work on the specific skills in which they show weaknesses. Materials are used/created on the level in which the student is working. The work increases in difficulty as mastery is demonstrated. Each student masters work at his/her own pace.

Resource class offers flexible seating. We use standard desks/chairs, a podium, a coffee table, a rolling chair and office-type desk, small stools, and yoga balls. Students that require some movement while working enjoy sitting on the yoga balls, using the bicycle pedals, or bouncing their feet/legs on the bands at the bottom of the chairs.
