WH1321, WH1322 ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: NoneThis is a modified Physical Education class for students that are unable to participate in the regular Physical Education classes due to a disability. The program is designed to accommodate each student’s needs as he/she participates in lifetime leisure and fitness activities.
WH3021, WH3022 DRIVER EDUCATION
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: Meet age restrictions by the Secretary of State (fall semester, course WH3021, is for grades 10-12 and for those age 16 by February 1. Spring semester, course WH3022, is for grades 9-12, and age 15 by the first day of the second semester.) Students who hold a current Illinois permit or Driver’s License can take the Driver Education course during summer school. Students will be scheduled by birth date order.Course Fee: $400 (Subject to change for 2024-25)This course is an integrated, four-phase Driver Education Program that includes instruction and practice in the classroom, simulation lab, driving range, and behind the wheel. Students will demonstrate knowledge of state driving laws along with safe, responsible driving skills in various driving environments. Students will complete up to six hours of driving during the course of the semester.
WH2023 HEALTH
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: NoneThrough classroom activities, guest speakers, and hands on practice, students will develop health skills including decision making, communication, refusal skills, and resiliency within the basic concepts of health. Students will demonstrate skills, knowledge, practices, and attitudes towards personal Health promotion. Students will apply these health related skills to assist in making informed choices throughout their lifetime.
WH0123 PHYSICAL EDUCATION I
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: NoneThis course focuses on the basic fitness concepts and their relationship to lifetime fitness activities. Students will enhance their understanding of health and skill related fitness components through physical activities, use of fitness technology, classroom lessons, team initiatives, aquatics.
WH0223 PHYSICAL EDUCATION II
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: Physical Education IThis course allows opportunities for students to experience different methods of exercise and activities. Use of these physical activities helps students understand the connection between fitness, health, and overall wellness. This course includes the development of a personal fitness plan, the use of fitness technology, basic water rescue, and a variety of sports and activities.
WH0663, WH0763 ADVENTURE EDUCATION
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5 (May be repeated)Prerequisite: NoneStudents enrolls in Adventure Education will progress through a program that emphasizes interpersonal relationships and individual growth. This course encourages students to develop greater self-confidence and acquire a sense of trust from classmates. Adventures Education is designed to expose students to a variety of lifelong activities including orienteering, geocaching, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, archery, kayaking, paddle boarding, survival, camping, outdoor cooking, backpacking, slacklining, knot tying, rock climbing, and team building. Students may take this course more than once for credit.
WH0633, WH0733 CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5 (May be repeated)Prerequisite: NoneCreative Movement provides students with opportunities to participate in fitness exercise that will improve their personal fitness levels in flexibility, muscular fitness, and cardio-respiratory health. Workouts may include yoga, pilates, step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, cardio resistance training, basic core training, jump rope, tumbling, dance instruction and choreography, and power walking. Students may take this course more than once for credit.
WH0653, WH0753 INDIVIDUAL SPORTS
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5 (May be repeated)Prerequisite: NoneThe Individual Sports module will allow students to participate in various individual athletic activities and competitions. Students are expected to compete on a daily basis in seasonal individual sports that may include badminton, pickleball, tennis, spikeball, and target sports such as golf. Students must be familiar with the rules of the games and they should have mastered fundamental skills and strategies of the identified sports. Students will participate in exercise sessions that focus on personal well-being and muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness. Students may take this course more than once for credit.
WH0673, WH0773 STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
Length/Credit: 1 semester/ 0.5 (May be repeated)Prerequisite: NoneStudents enrolled in Strength and Conditioning will explore their personal fitness levels and challenge their current ability for optimal results. The key components of this course includes strength, speed, power, agility and flexibility. These components will be evaluated and worked on through multiple modules focusing on individual improvement. Enrolling in this course demonstrates a dedication to bringing the attitude of hard work to each and every day. Students may take this course more than once for credit.This course is offered in both the traditional and blended format.
WH0643, WH0743 TEAM SPORTS
Length/Credit: 1 semester/ 0.5 (May be repeated)Prerequisite: NoneTeam Sports engages participants in rigorous athletic team activities and competitions. Students are expected to compete on a daily basis in seasonal team sports that may include ultimate sports, kronum, basketball, floor hockey, volleyball and softball. Students must be familiar with the rules of the games and should have mastered fundamental skills and strategies from prior PE courses. Students are expected to work cooperatively with teammates, demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the identified sports. Students will also work in exercise sessions for muscle fitness, cardiorespiratory fitness, and personal wellness. Students may take this course more than once for credit.
WH1121, WH1122 PE LEADERS I
Length/Credit: 1 year / 1.0Prerequisite: 15 years of age. Successful completion of Physical Education 11 aquatics assessments. Students will learn how to lead group activities, assess skill progression in activities, and study methods and techniques of teaching physical education. Students will develop lesson plans using current D303 course content in Physical Education/Wellness grades 9-12. The focus of this program is to develop and expand leadership skills through both group and individual teaching opportunities. This will include the completion of American Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding, including First Aid, and Professional CPR (including AED).
WH1221, WH1222 PE LEADERS II
Length/Credit: 1 year / 1.0Prerequisite: PE Leaders IThis course provides the opportunity for the students to extend, refine and apply the skills and knowledge acquired in the PE Leaders I. PE Leaders 2 students will be assigned to physical education classes. Students will be expected to facilitate and interact in group activities, serve as lifeguards, and aid in various aspects of physical education classes. Students will be expected to meet the standards and expectations established by the Wellness Department to remain in the program their senior year.

WH5033 SPORTS MEDICINE
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: HealthD303 Course Fees ApplyThis course is designed to include the basic concepts of anatomy, mechanism of injury, and administration of sports medicine care. Students will be exposed to how sports injuries occur, how they are treated, and how they can be prevented. Students will also be exposed to various occupations regarding sports medicine. This course includes a Red Cross CPR/AED/1st Aid certification opportunity.
WH6133 INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH CAREERS
Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5Prerequisite: HealthOther Info: Hospital regulations require students and staff to have a current flu and TB test between Sept. & May.This course is designed to assist students in exploring a variety of aspects within the medical field. Students will match personal abilities and interests to potential career choices within the field of health care. Some topics that will be covered include careers and job outlook, educational requirements related to professions, the study of human anatomy and physiology, and legal, moral, ethical issues in the healthcare system. This course lays a strong foundation for success in the Advanced Healthcare Concepts course. This course is offered in both the traditional and blended format.
WH6233 ADVANCED HEALTHCARE CONCEPTS

The course exposes students to a variety of opportunities available within the healthcare industry which include both classroom and community-based activities. Topics covered include communicating as a healthcare team, medical terminology, technical skills, infection control, and disease pathophysiology. The course provides students with American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification. After completion, the student will possess a strong foundation for pursuing future dual credit opportunities. This course is offered in both the traditional and blended format.
