Frequently asked questions

Applications for the Seal of Biliteracy are open to all Libertyville High School students.  

For Spring of 2024 our level 3 students will be taking the AAPPL interpretive reading and listening assessments in class.  Our level 4 students will be taking the full AAPPL test during class.  Our AP students will be taking the full AAPPL test, or be retesting in only the parts needed to earn a score of I5 or A.

Heritage speakers of a language may test at their convenience.

How are students' language skills assessed?

Students taking the AAPPL or STAMP exam are assessed in the ACTFL modes of communication including: interpersonal listening & speaking, presentational writing, interpretive reading and interpretive listening. 

How much does testing cost?

The cost for a complete AAPPL test is $20. 

Individual parts of the AAPPL test are priced at:  Speaking $10, Writing $5, Listening and Reading $5.  

The cost for a complete STAMP test is:

STAMP: American Sign Language $49.90

STAMP: Hindi $39.90

STAMP: Polish $39.90

STAMP: Hebrew $59.90

Individual parts of the STAMP test are priced as follows: 

Polish or Hindi:  Speaking $22.90, Writing $22.90, Reading $13.90, Listening $13.90

Hebrew:  Speaking $32.90, Writing $32.90, Reading $20.90, Listening $20.90

The ALTA test costs $165.

Individual parts of the ALTA tests are priced as follows:

Listening/Speaking $66, Writing $66, Reading $33

How do I receive testing accommodations?

Accessibility features are embedded in AAPPL.  More information on requesting specific accommodations here.  If you need to request testing accommodations, please contact World Languages Department Supervisor Jenny Goettsche.

What if I don’t pass?

Students can retake the part(s) of the AAPPL or STAMP test that they do not pass. 

The cost for retaking individual parts of the AAPPL test are as follows: Speaking $10, Writing $5, Listening and Reading $5.

The cost for retaking individual parts of the STAMP test is $5 per domain.

When will I receive my results?

Complete results for the AAPPL or STAMP test are usually available within 2-3 weeks.  During peak testing periods results can be delayed.

How do I earn college credit for the Seal?

The Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy website has updated information regarding course credit for the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy at public colleges and universities in Illinois.  Please refer to the document below, or reach out directly to your specific college or university.
