Components of Digital Citizenship

In order for students to be safe, courteous and effectuve consumers and creators of digital resources, the need to be good digital citizens.

Digital Citizenship encompasses a full range of skills and behaviors from online safety to resource literacy. All of those skills fall under the three main actions performed by every good digital citizen:

  • Respect
  • Connect
  • Protect

The lessons below will help students to develop skills in all of the areas that make them literate, contributing and careful digital citizens.

Responsibility - Taking care of one's self and others; to carry out a duty or task carefully and thoroughly

Care and Handling of Your Chromebook (grades 2-5)

Respect - Showing regard for the worth of someone or something


File Management (grades 2-3)

Recognizing the good qualities of someone or something

T.H.I.N.K. Like a Digital Citizen (grades 4-5, also appropriate for 2-3)
