Potsdam Climate Smart Communities & Canton Sustainability Committees

The Canton Sustainability Committee's principal areas of focus are food and agriculture, energy, transportation, and plastics. The committee also works on waste, climate change mitigation and adaptation, natural resources, open space, and land planning. In each of these areas, the committee supports and promotes smart sustainable practices that enhance Canton’s human, natural and financial resources. The annual Sustainability Action Plan provides a framework for the committee’s work.

Potsdam Climate Smart Community - www.facebook.com/groups/852161308931472 will provide general info about the Potsdam Joint CSC Task Force. They are working on Community Choice Aggregation, Pollinator habitats, community vulnerability and resilience - and more!

Both communities are working with Joule Community Power, who is empowering local decision-making and enabling access to cleaner and cheaper energy. Through community choice aggregation (CCA), Joule helps municipalities join together to aggregate the buying power of residents to negotiate more favorable terms of their energy contracts. This decreases electricity costs, designates renewable generation sources, supports local renewable generation, and increases consumer protection for entire communities. www.JouleCommunityPower.com
