About

The Supporting Neurodiverse Students Professional Learning System (SNS) provides adults the training and resources they need to implement evidence-based improvement strategies to support the growth of students with significantly divergent social and emotional learning needs.

The Supporting Neurodiverse Students (SNS) Professional Learning System is supported through a grant from Wisconsin DPI and includes training, coaching, virtual cohorts, resources, and technical assistance to support educators and families serving students with disability-related needs in the area of social and emotional learning (SEL).

The goal of the SNS is to support a skills-based approach to challenging behaviors that will improve a student’s social understanding and emotional management skills.  The SNS System provides learning opportunities with a focus on regulation, social communication, flexibility, resilience, sensory processing, and executive functioning. The SNS System is beneficial to educators supporting students with autism, emotional behavioral disabilities, other health impairments, and/or any other students encountering difficulty accessing, engaging, and making progress as the result of unmet social and emotional skill needs (AD/HD, mental health, etc).

The SNS System helps educators identify underlying skills that require support and instruction beyond a school’s universal level of support.  Educators learn to utilize the Wisconsin DPI SEL competencies to help identify a student’s root cause(s) (e.g. disability-related needs) that if not supported through a student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or other educational supports may result in disciplinary removals and/or lack of access, engagement, and progress in grade-level instruction and environments.

This grant is one of several statewide projects that support educating students with IEPs brought to you by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.  To explore other grant opportunities follow this link to the Supports for Educating Students with IEPs webpage.
