  • If an answer is wrong, you will put a small check mark next to the number of the question and neatly write the correct answer.

  • Once the grading is complete, the grade will be written as a fraction at the top right-hand corner of the paper, as the number correct over the total amount of points.

  • The paper will then be handed back to the student, where it will be checked once again. If there are any errors in grading, points will be subtracted from the “checker’s” grade.

  • Grades will be called out to Mr. Malgradi to be entered.

Bell work

  • The bell work will be completed and checked, following the same procedures as previously outlined.

  • This paper will be filed in the proper section of your binder, and the assigned written homework will be retrieved.

HOMEWORK

  • Written homework will be checked for completeness, by trading and grading, and scores will be called out to Mr. Malgradi.

  • If the homework is not COMPLETELY answered, no credit will be given. Three incomplete/missing assignments will result in MANDATORY TUTORING after school until such assignments are completed. If the incomplete or missing assignment is turned into Mr. Malgradi the following day (whether you are scheduled to attend this class or not). No credit will be given, but it will no longer count towards a mandatory tutoring.

  • The graded assignment will be filed in the binder, and a page of lined, loose-leaf paper will be removed in order to use for note-taking.

Participation

  • Every student will start each quarter with 100 pts in participation. This is the responsibility to maintain. Attending class, having prepared materials, and involved in class discussions will keep the student at 100 pts. If a student does not maintain the previous list, points will be removed accordingly.

MAKE- UP WORK

  • Students are required to make up ALL assignments that they missed while absent or out of class.

  • It is YOUR responsibility to get any missing notes.

  • It is YOUR responsibility to find out what the assignment was that you missed. You will need to check Weebly, the whiteboard, or ask a classmate.

  • I am available after school if you need help completing the work.

  • You have 2 days for each day that you are absent to turn in your absent work. YOU WILL NOT BE REMINDED TO TURN IN YOUR MAKE-UP WORK. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE.

  • I will remove 5pts of participation for each absence until you make up your missed Bell Ringer.

LECTURE TIME

  • Each student is expected to be actively participating in both note-taking and classroom discussions.

  • No student should be involved in any other activity.

  • At the beginning of each new note-taking section, the date and section information must be written in the left-hand margin.

  • At the start of a new chapter, a new sheet of paper will be started, with your name (first and last), class hour, and chapter information.

  • At the start of every new sheet of paper, your name and class hour must be written at the top right-hand corner.

Perfect Student

Hour 3

Chapter 1: Introduction to Physical Science

July 26

1.1

  • Notes must be neatly written in pencil. Highlighters and different colored ink may be used to highlight important information. This should be done as you review your notes, not as you take the notes.

  • Notes for that chapter will be checked during test-taking time and be given a grade. Consideration is given to quality, not quantity,

  • Each student is expected to stand erect when called upon to answer, ask a question, or present orally.

LABS

  • On the Tuesday before a lab, homework will include some sort of preparation for the upcoming lab. Directions will be given at that time.

  • Each student is expected to act like a scientist in manner, action, and deed.

  • A high regard of respect will be given at all times to other students and teacher, as well as to materials and time.

During lab time, as during any class time, talking out is absolutely prohibited. There will be appropriate and appointed times in which quiet talking is allowed. If the din grows

  • beyond an acceptable level, the lab group or individual will be removed from the lab and a zero will be given for the lab. This will not only greatly affect the lab grade but also the participation grade of the individual(s).

  • There will be only one student from each lab group permitted to be out of their seats during lab. This person will be appointed to get the necessary supplies for their group.

  • Mr. Malgradi is to be notified IMMEDIATELY if there is an accident or a problem.

  • Clean up is an essential part of labs. Each lab group will be responsible for properly cleaning up their lab area and returning all materials.

  • After each lab, there will be a discussion time, reflecting on the findings. A written portion of the lab will be completed and turned in by that Friday.

EXITING THE CLASSROOM

  • Keep in mind that Mr. Malgradi is the one to dismiss you – not the bell!

  • Students not remembering that will be instructed to remain seated until everyone else has exited.

  • The students will be dismissed table by table, or some particular method, to get their backpacks.

  • Each student will retrieve their backpack and bring it back to the table to prepare to leave.

  • Each student will remain quiet as they exit the classroom, smiling and politely waving to their teacher as they go.

TUTORING

  • Tutoring is Monday through Thursday from 2:30 – 3:00 pm by appointment. If you need help outside of these times, please let me know and we will set up a time for you to come in. When you arrive at tutoring, you need to sign in and then sign out when you leave. Tutoring means you are asking questions.

  • Conference time is for work, not socializing. Students coming in from other classes must sign in. It is up to Mr. Malgradi’s discretion as to whether you may stay or not, depending on the class size.

  • Students are welcome to come into my classroom at the end of the day to work on their homework. This is not tutoring, however, and will not be treated as such.

FIRE DRILL

  • Students will quickly line up single file by the door and proceed outside according to the evacuation map that is posted on the wall next to the door.

  • The student will remain in a single- file line, completely SILENT, to our destination.

  • While at our appointed destination, students will remain SILENT and in single file the entire time.

  • Students will then walk inside completely SILENT and in a single-file line until they are back in class.

MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES

  • If a student is in need of anything, or is responding to the teacher’s question, he/she should raise his/her hand and patiently and quietly wait to be called upon by the teacher.

  • There will be no sharpening of pencils during lecture time. A good rule of thumb is to have two sharpened pencils at your desk, or extra lead for mechanical pencils.

  • If you have a sharpener at your desk you may use it as needed; however, you are responsible for cleaning up any mess that you make. You may NOT share this sharpener with others, as this will be a distraction and considered talking.

  • Clicking pens, highlighters, pencils, etc. will result in the permanent removal of such items by the teacher.

  • If a tissue is needed, the student may quietly get out of his/her seat and get a tissue. Loud blowing sounds will not be allowed since that will result in an unnecessary distraction. The student may step outside of the classroom to use the tissue. If this action becomes a distraction to others, it will result in a penalty against the student’s participation grade.

  • The restroom is to be used BEFORE coming into the classroom. Permission will not be given to use the restroom during class time.

  • No students are allowed to be in my classroom if I am not in the room.

  • Gum chewing is strictly prohibited.

  • Students must ask permission from the teacher in order to leave the classroom. If approved, a pass will be given to wherever you need to go, unless it is to the restroom. You MUST sign out in the log and sign back in when you return. It is important to sign out and back in in case we have a fire drill or a lock down.
