Did you know:

  • Every two seconds someone in the world needs blood.

  • More than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions each year in the U.S. and Canada.

  • 43,000 pints of donated blood are used each day in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Only 37% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood.

  • Less than 10% of those eligible to donate blood donate.

  • One unit of blood can be separated into several components: red blood cells, plasma, platelets and cryoprecipitate.

  • If all blood donors gave three times a year, blood shortages would be a rare event.

SAVE A LIFE - DONATE!

When you donate, you help those in need and you help Avon NHS members compete for a scholarship. Thanks to the generous participation of the Avon staff, students, and community, Avon NHS 2017-2018 had two members each receive the scholarship.

Questions? Please contact the Avon HS NHS Advisor, Mrs. Christina Ecklund. Mrs. Ecklund can be reached at: cecklund@avoncsd.org or by telephone: 585-226-2455 X 1641.

Please help us serve those in need of blood transfusions. Please donate during one of our NHS American Red Cross Blood Drives! We are looking forward to a great year of learning, exemplifying the NHS traits of service, scholarship, leadership and character.
