Drama I

Were you absent and need to make up your Rehearsal Standards grade for that day? Complete your choice of the assignments listed below. One assignment turned in is equivalent to one missing day.

Write a Monologue:· You have been hired as the playwright for the newest high school comedic production. The only way it can be produced is by sharing a monologue from the play. You have to write a half-page monologue to turn into the producer.· Start by creating a title for your play. This will appear on the top of the paper.· The first line of text will be a description of the character. · Begin the character’s monologue (that means only this character will be speaking…and no one else) with any necessary stage directions in parenthesis and the lines following in paragraph form. · Think of this as a moment from the character’s life. It may or may not be directed at someone, it may only be an audible thought. Make sure to fill up half a page!o Use this as an example:
Salty Monday Susan is having the worst Monday ever. She is working the last hour of her shift at McDonald’s when an annoyed customer is returning French fries that were “too salty”. Susan, in her greasy apron and disheveled hair, cannot hide her feelings any longer. SUSAN: Too salty? TOO salty? Why don’t you rewrite the recipe for the entire McDonald’s franchise? I’m sure Old McDonald himself would love to hear from you, the fry expert. I’m sorry that I was too busy to count each grain of salt.

Analyze a Character:· Watch a movie, scripted television show, or read a book. · Select a character to learn more about. · Begin by listing attributes you’ve gathered from the source that fit into the following Given Circumstances categories. If the source doesn’t give the information, make it up based on what you think the character would choose: o WHO – age, gender, role, job title, relationships, physical descriptiono WHAT – briefly describe what the character is trying to accomplisho WHERE – city, state, country, building, roomo WHEN – specific date, month, time of year, actual year, time of dayo OTHER INFORMATION – anything important that doesn’t fit elsewhere
· Now place yourself in the character’s shoes. Create a timeline of the character’s life from birth to their current situation. There must be at least 8 events listed by date and with a 2-3 sentence description of the event. · Both the Given Circumstances and Timeline should be written/drawn on the same paper.
