Evil Genius's Periodic Table of Socks

Do you think the sock patterns on this site are just too wordy? Here are the barebones instructions to knit socks the Evil Genius way.

Toe

Turkish cast-on 3/4 inch of wraps; knit 1.5 rounds. Increase 4 stitches every other round until sock is about 1 inch long, then increase 4 stitches every third round until you reach desired circumference (88% of foot circumference).

Foot

Select either Longer Gus (increases every 3 rounds) or Shorter Gus (increases every 2 rounds) option. Measure the length of "Gus" rows, and then knit until sock is "Gus" inches shorter than the foot.

Gussets

Work gusset increases, positioning increases where desired.

Turn Heel

Place markers to identify the heel base stitches (they should be centered on the bottom of the sock). Work short rows between markers. Work a transition round, picking up a stitch in the gap left by the short rows. The stitches between markers will be the heel flap.

Heel Flap

The flap is worked upwards, back and forth, working the heel flap edges together with the adjacent gusset stitch.

Cuff

Knit about 1 inch plain, then work cuff in ribbing to desired length. Bind off loosely.
