Hi everyone!

Lauren Reissfelder asked me to post this wonderful poem she wrote about Cross-Country. Hope you enjoy it!

The Fight For First Place

The runners took their mark on the thick white line.

The timers prepared to start the time.

The announcer breather deep and raised his gun.

Then, without moments hesitation, the race had begun.

The runners thrust forward, taking off fast.

No one wanted to end up in last.

The coaches and bystanders cheered the runners on,

and the runners kept running as the race wound on.

With bright pink skin and sweat streaked cheeks,

the runners emerged from the steep hill peeks.

They tore down the final stretch, doing their best,

looking forward to a relaxing rest.

The runners crossed the finish line, first, second and thrid.

I can tell you they had the best times I have ever heard!

They celebrated joyfully with wide grins on their faces,

determined to train well and win the next races.
