Building Trades

Building Trades/Carpentry (C0119):

This course is designed for students who want to work in the building trades field upon graduation. Students receive entry-level training in construction safety, rough framing, finishing work, drywall application, cabinet making, finish trim, concrete finishing, painting, ceramic tile, plumbing and electrical wiring. Students also receive related information needed in the above training with new house construction. Building trades is a high-demand, low-supply ccupational area, meaning a student’s chances of finding employment are very good. Students should have basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, including full use of fractions, and be able to read a standard ruler. Students should enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather, willing to work with others, and have a strong desire to learn the course content. Students will be required to purchase a tool belt, hammer, and speed square and hard hat. This course may be taken as an advanced career elective.

Prerequisite: Recommend Geometry and Drafting and Design I Grade Level: 11-12 Credit: 3 units

Employment Opportunities

Upon completing the Building Trades program students may continue their education by joining an apprenticeship in many varied skill areas. They may also pursue advanced training in construction management, code enforcement, and various other engineering fields at the university level. Other examples include:
