Placement Tests

All students who plan to register for courses with reading, writing, or math prerequisites must complete the appropriate Placement Test. In order to take the Placement Tests you must have applied to Columbus State Community College, been accepted and received a Cougar Identification number (student number).

What is a Cougar Identification number?

It is a seven digit set of numbers listed on your Columbus State Community College acceptance letter. Find your CougarID

Reading Placement Test

Reading comprehension is a critical skill for college success. The Reading Placement test assesses your ability to read and comprehend, so that you are placed in the appropriate classes your first semester at Columbus State.

Writing Placement Test

No matter what you’re studying in college, good writing skills are essential. The Writing Placement Test assesses your writing ability to determine if you require remediation and assure that you are placed in the correct classes your first semester at Columbus State.

Mathematics Placement Test

Depending on your major, you may need to take a few college math classes – or quite a few! The Mathematics Placement Test will assess your math abilities to ensure that you receive any remedial assistance you may need, and place you in the right course your first semester at Columbus State.
