CLAS 1222 - Intro to Mythology (3 Credits)

This course is an introduction to the world of mythology through the study of myths from Greece and Rome. The course explores some of the religious ideas, traditions and values that distinguish one civilization from another, while also indicating universally shared themes. Attention will be given to cultural expression of mythical themes in literature and art.

POLS 1100 - Introduction to American Government (3 Credits)

This course introduces students to the nature, purpose and structure of the American political system. Attention is given to the institutions and processes that create public policy. The strengths and weaknesses of the American political system are discussed, along with the role of citizens in a democracy.

HART 1201 - History of Art 1 (3 Credits)

This course is a historically based introduction to the study of visual arts in the West. Through a critical examination of the fundamental formal concepts and the historical developments in the visual arts, this course examines the visual expression of culture from the Prehistoric Era to the early Renaissance.

2nd Semester 9 Credits

PHIL 1130 - Ethics (3 Credits)

This course introduces students to moral reasoning, examining theories of right and wrong, good and bad, justice and injustice as they have been viewed in the past and as they shed light on contemporary ethical issues. PHIL 1130 meets elective requirements in the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degree programs and distributive transfer requirements in philosophy and humanities. Sections of this course are H-designated Honors classes.

HIST 2223 - African-American History I before 1877 (3 Credits)

The class is primarily a lecture/discussion course which includes the history of African Americans in the New World from the time of the slave trade to the end of Reconstruction.
