***Parking Lot Safety***

  • We have had over 10 complaints this year about unsafe driving on the parking lot.
  • The posted speed limit on the parking lot is 10 km/hr. Please ensure anyone who is dropping off your child is obeying this speed limit.
  • Our most important priority is the safety and well-being of the students entrusted in our care, however we can only ensure this safety with your cooperation, please.

  • Grade 9 Immunization: Grade 9's are asked to return Immunization Consent forms ASAP. Immunizations will take place this Tuesday, March 10th


  • Grade 9 Emerald Gala Basket: Students are asked to bring in their contributions ASAP so we can put the basket together.


  • Salad Bar: Reminder- Salad bar will take place in the Aula on Monday, March 9th. There will be no cafeteria services available. Holland Hall students have already pre-ordered their salad. Mullock Hall students can bring $5.00 on Monday and pay at the salad bar.

  • Grade 9 Immunization: Grade 9's are asked to return Immunization Consent forms ASAP. They were sent home with the students last week.


  • Grade 9 Emerald Gala Basket: Students are asked to bring in their contributions by March 6th so we can put the basket together.


  • We again remind parents/guardians that if your child is unwell to keep them home until they feel better. The only way to contain sickness is to keep children home so they can rest and get better. Thank you for your cooperation.


  • Enrichment Mini-Courses: Enrichment Mini-Course information has been emailed to all Grades 7-9 parents. Please check your email for this exciting opportunity.


  • 2019 Tuition Tax Receipts: Tuition tax receipts for the 2019 tax year were emailed to families Friday. A letter explaining the income tax treatment of tuition fees related to childcare expenses and charitable donations can be downloaded HERE. If you have any questions regarding your tax receipt, please contact Ms. Shelley Martin at smartin@stbons.ca or call 709-726-0024 ext. 228. Receipts for SBC After 3, Easter Plus Camp and Summer Plus Camp will be sent to families separately.


  • Food Bank Donations: Thank you to everyone who brought in a food donation for the MacMorran Centre food bank on Friday. Due to the delayed opening on Friday, we will still accept non-perishable food donations on Monday for those that were not able to bring one in on Friday.

  • Pancake Day: On Tuesday, February 25, Mrs. Mallay and her helpers will be preparing and serving pancake breakfast for Kindergarten- Grade 12 students. Please note: if your child has an allergy, please feel free to send in their food friendly alternative. The schedule will be as follows: 8:00am-8:35am: Grade 7-12 students will be served pancakes in the cafeteria.


  • An Emerald Gala: Join us for An Emerald Gala, on Saturday, March 21st as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the reopening of St. Bonaventure’s College. Tickets are $125 each ($40 tax receipt) or Tables of 10 are $1100 ($250 tax receipt). Tickets can be purchased online HERE.   • Sr. Boys Basketball: The Sr. Boys Basketball have their provincial qualifiers on Wednesday, February 26th in Ferryland at 3:30pm and 5:00pm.


  • Pink Shirt Day: Pink Shirt day began in 2007 when two Nova Scotian teens organized others to wear pink shirts to school in support of a young man who had been bullied for wearing pink. Their act of kindness inspired a worldwide movement to promote kindness and awareness of the need to stand up to all forms of bullying. St. Bon’s will be officially celebrating Pink Shirt Day on Friday, February 28. This will be a jeans day and all students and staff are encouraged to wear pink. While we aim to promote kindness and respect at all times, students will see some more visible reminders and activities in school this week. We are pleased that 22 year-old motivational speaker and anti-bullying advocate, Lynelle Cantwell, will be sharing her story with students on Friday morning. This will be a special jeans day as well. All students and staff are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or gift card for a grocery store to replenish the food shelves at MacMorran Center.


  • Ash Wednesday: Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, February 26th. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and we will have various services/mass at school on Wednesday. All of the services will be celebrated in our chapel. The schedule is as follows:

9:10am: Kindergarten - Grade 3

11:05am: Grade 7-12

1:10pm: Grade 4-6

Students are to be in full uniform on Wednesday.


  • Cafeteria Menu for Ash Wednesday: Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting in the Catholic Church, which means we abstain from eating meat. The cafeteria will have a special menu on Wednesday as follows:

  • School Holiday: The school will be closed on Monday, February 17th for the February school holiday.


  • Pink Shirt Day: Pink Shirt Day will be held on Friday, February 28th instead of the national day, Wednesday, February 26th. February 26th is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent and we will have various services/mass within school on that day.


  • Open House: St. Bon's will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, March 29th from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Interested parents and students are invited to meet Faculty members from various academic departments, discover what makes our music & athletics program unique and learn about innovations in curriculum supporting students learning in S.T.E.A.M. Please help spread the word and invite any family and/or friends that might be interested in learning more about St. Bon's .


  • Recycling Blitz: Our February Recycling Blitz will take place this Saturday, February 22nd from 9:30am-11:00am in the basement of Holland Hall. To learn what we accept for recycling, please click HERE.


  • High School Course Selection: High School Course selection sheets are passed due. If your child has not done so yet, please submit the course selection sheet to the office as soon as possible.


  • End of Day Dismissal: A reminder that all students should be picked up after school if they have no extra curricular activities. There is no teacher supervision after 3:30. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.


  • Duke Of Ed Program: Student in the DOE Program are asked to sign up for their practice and qualifying hikes for the Bronze and Silver awards. The sign up sheets are on the principal's office door.


  • Athletic News: Our Sr. Girls basketball team will play against Holy Heart's B team in our gym on Thursday, February 20th at 4:00pm. All are welcome to cheer on our the team.

All members of the CONCERT BAND (except percussion), should be completing Sign-Off sheets, either in sectional rehearsals or by videos submitted to Mrs. Etchegary.

WIND ENSEMBLE:

All members of the WIND ENSEMBLE (except percussion), have video assessments due to Mrs. Etchegary by Monday, February 24th.

SYMPHONIC BAND:

All members of the SYMPHONIC BAND (except percussion) have in class assessments on Thursday, February 27th. Students who miss this assessment, must send in video assessments to Mrs. Etchegary.

  • Parent Teacher Meetings: Parent Teacher interviews will be held on Thursday, February 6th from 4:30pm-6:00pm and 6:30pm-8:00pm for Term 1. Dismissal will be at the regular times. We will not be dismissing at 12pm.


  • Grade 9 Parent Meeting: Grade 9 parents are invited to a meeting regarding High School Programming on Thursday, February 6th at 6:00pm in the Resource Room. Any parents wishing to meet to discuss course selections, please contact amallay@stbons.ca


  • High School Course Selection: Course Selection Sheets have been distributed to Grade 10 and 11 students. Mrs. Mallay and Mr. Martino are available for course selection meetings and we hope to have all sheets in by Wednesday, February 5th, 2020.


  • Cafeteria Services: Chartwells would like to advise parents to please use cafzone.ca, not www.cafzone.ca, for online ordering.

  • We hope to be back in operations Monday January 27th, depending on the walking & driving conditions in St. John’s. Please be careful out there. This will be DAY 1.


  • Term 1 Report cards will now go home Thursday, January 30th.


  • Parent teacher interviews are moved to Thursday, February 6th. To close the gap of missed classroom time we will have class all day that day and will NOT be dismissing students at noon. Parent teacher interviews will be held from 4:00pm-8:30pm that evening.


  • Sibling groups WILL NOT be held on January 31st.

  • Cafeteria: We expect Chartwells to operate beginning on Monday, January 27th as per usual.


  • Term 2 course switch will begin on Monday, January 27th which will be Day 1. This affects PE and Religion classes in Sr. High.

  • The Semi-Formal will go ahead on Friday, January 31st, as this does not interfere with curriculum time.

  • Parent Teacher Meetings: Parent Teacher interviews will be held on Thursday, January 30th for Term 1. Dismissal will be at 12:00pm for all students to accommodate these meetings.


  • SBC Cash Lottery: A reminder that lottery tickets (sold & unsold) and money were due last Wednesday. If you have not returned your tickets yet, please ensure they are returned to your youngest child's homeroom teacher or the President's Office on Monday. Thank you to those that have already returned their tickets and money.


  • Semi Formal Dance: Our annual Semi Formal dance is Friday, January 17th. Tickets will be on sale from the students council starting Monday, January 13th at recess time. Tickets are 10.00 each which includes food and drinks. If a student wishes to sponsor a guest from another school, sponsor forms can be gotten from Maggie McCarthy. These forms must be returned to Mrs. Mallay by Tuesday, January 14th at 3pm. Any student sponsored in is the responsibility of the SBC student who sponsors them.


  • Extra Curricular Activities: Extra Curricular Activities such as clubs, and sports will resume this week.

  • Extra Curricular Activities: All extra curricular activities are finished until after Christmas break.


  • Season of Giving: Our Social Justice committee is asking members of our school community to bring donations of personal hygiene items (shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bar soap, combs/brushes, shaving cream, razors, deodorant) to support the First Light Friendship Centre and the Gathering Place. They will have collection bins in the lobby of Mullock and Holland Hall.



  • Cafeteria Service: Our cafeteria service ends on Friday, December 13th. Please note that students will need a packed lunch for December 16-20th.


  • Lost and Found: Please note the lost and found located at the back of the Aula Maxima will be donated to charity on Friday, December 20th.

  • SBC Cash Lottery: Our annual lottery was launched this week just in time for Christmas! This year’s lottery will run from Wednesday, November 13, 2019 to Wednesday, January 15, 2020 with a Grand Prize draw of $10,000!. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. Tickets were sent home with the youngest in the family on Wednesday.


  • Parent's Auxiliary News: Breakfast with Santa: Our St. Bonaventure’s community will be getting into the Christmas spirit on Saturday, November 30 with our annual Breakfast with Santa and Craft/Bake Sale. We hope your family can drop by between 9:00am and 11:00 am for a festive morning of musical performances, photos with Santa and a sale to help with your Christmas shopping.   • Progress Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews: Reports for Term 1 Progress went home on Friday. Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on November 7th from 1pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Students will be dismissed at 12pm this day to accommodate these interviews. Interview sign up sheets were sent home with each report card, but you can also download a copy HERE.


  • Remembrance Day Service: Our annual Remembrance Day Service will be on Friday, November 8th at 11am in the Basilica. This service is to remember those who fought in war and continue to serve. Students from Grades K-12 will be involved in various ways. This year, our theme, will be the poppy. All are welcome to join us.


  • Remembrance Day Holiday: There will be no school on Monday, November 11th to observe Remembrance Day.


  • BAND NEWS: A reminder that Band Fees were due on Friday, November 1st. If your child did not bring home the Instrumental Music Policy and Band Fee Form, please email Mrs. Etchegary at vetchegary@stbons.ca .
  • Wind Ensemble Families: The Wind Ensemble will be performing at the Remembrance Day Service on Friday, November 8th. There will be a regular full band rehearsal on Thursday, November 7th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. There is an early dismissal on this day due to Parent - Teacher Interviews. All members of the Wind Ensemble are asked to attend this rehearsal as it will be the final rehearsal before their performance.

  • Lockdown Practice: A reminder our Lockdown practice will be at 2:20pm on Monday, October 21st.


  • Vaping Presentations: This week we will be presenting a vaping awareness presentation to our Grades 7-12 students in various classes. This presentation is being delivered by schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador in partnership with the Alliance for the Control of Tobacco.


  • Halloween Haunted House & Dance: The Student Council's Halloween Haunted House and Dance is Friday, October 25th from 7:00pm - 11:00pm. Tickets will be on sale beginning Monday, October 21st from Student Council. Tickets are $10.00. This includes the Haunted House entrance and refreshments. There are no outside guests permitted to this dance.


  • Jeans Day for Toonies for Tuition: We will be having a special Jeans Day on Friday, October 25th. Students are asked to donate $2 for this Jeans Day to support the Canadian Catholic School Trustees Association's Toonies for Tuition program. This program provides funds for the CCSTA Tuition Assistance Program, helping students access Catholic Education in provinces which do not provide full funding. The Toonies for Tuition program gives back so much more to St. Bon's than we ever donate, so we try to do our best to help with this fund.


  • Senior Boys Basketball: Practices are Tuesday & Thursday at 7am


  • 2018-19 Yearbook Orders: We are now taking orders for the 2018-19 (last year) yearbooks. You can place your order online HERE. Orders must be placed by Thursday, October 24th.


  • Recycling Blitz: Our next Recycling Blitz will take place on Saturday, October 26 from 9:30am-11:00am in the basement of Holland Hall.


  • Parking Lot Safety: Our parking lot can be a busy place, particularly during morning drop off and end of day pick up. We ask for your cooperation in making our school parking lot as safe as possible by keeping the following in mind:

The only entrance to our parking lot is on Bonaventure Ave. Cars are NOT permitted to enter from Mullock Street. This is an exit only.

Please reduce your speed when driving on the parking lot

Parking on crosswalks is prohibited. This includes the crosswalks located on the parking lot and Mullock Street.

  • St. Bon's Hockey Skills Academy: Reminder to students registered for the St. Bon's Hockey Skills Academy that it will begin on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

  • Sibling Groups: To celebrate our gratitude and thankfulness we will be having our first sibling groups and litter-less lunch on Friday, October 11th. The idea of sibling groups is to have a younger grade paired with an older grade and they would remain “siblings” throughout their school years. These groups do activities and have lunch together. All students are asked to bring a waste-less, litter-less lunch and to stay in for lunch on this day.


  • Thanksgiving Holiday: October 14th No Classes.


  • Walkathon: All monies and sponsor sheets are past due. Please ensure you have returned these to the school.

  • Walkathon: All sheets and monies need to be returned by Monday, September 30 and please ensure your child's name and teacher is on the sponsor sheets. If weather permits our Walkathon is tomorrow. The K-6 will walk to Bannerman Park and the 7-12 will walk to Quidi Vidi Lake. A snack will be given to the students in their classrooms when they return. This will be a Jeans/relaxed dress day for the whole day. We encourage students to wear SBC wear if possible.

  • Band News: The Junior Jazz Band will have its first rehearsal on Monday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Students should have lunch in their classrooms at 11:45am. Students interested in auditioning for Junior Jazz are asked to attend this rehearsal. Full Symphonic Band rehearsal will take place on Tuesday at 8:30am.

  • Jeans Day: There will be a jeans day for September on Friday, September 27th. For new families, a jeans day is an opportunity for children to wear their jeans or casual clothes to school as a little reward for being awesome!


  • The Jesuit Martyrs Mass: will be on Thursday, September 26th at 10:45 am at St. Pius X Parish. K-3 Classes plus the Wind Ensemble/ choir, will be bused to the church. Grades 4-12 will walk in Pilgrimage as the Canadian Jesuit martyrs made pilgrimages throughout the Huron nations. Parents and Guardians are welcome to join us.   • Debating Club: Meets on Mondays after school from 3:15pm - 4:30pm. Any student from Gr 7-12 is welcomed to attend

  • Athletic Booster Club Townhall Meeting: On Monday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm, St. Bon's will be holding a town hall meeting regarding the establishment of an Athletic Booster Club. If you are interested in helping with our Athletics program, you are encouraged to attend to participate in the discussion.

Full Beginning Band – Monday, September 23rd from 9:00am to 9:40am. No instruments necessary for this rehearsal yet. Students will be given band schedules at this class. They are asked to bring their instruments for sectional rehearsals on Wednesday, September 25th.

  • Back to School Dance: The Back to School Dance for Grade 7-12 will take place on Friday, September 20 from 8pm-11pm. The theme is Walking On Sunshine, so students are encouraged to wear yellow. Tickets are $5 (CASH ONLY) and will not be available at the door.


  • Cafeteria Services: The September menu is available online HERE. We are requesting that Holland Hall students lunches be ordered online if possible. Chartwells can guarantee more efficient orders when done online and they are hoping to move to online only ordering in the future. To place your order online, please click HERE. If you wish to visit Michelle on Monday to place your child's orders for the week you can do so as well. She is available every morning at 8:10am.

As part of the Fall Fair, the PA is once again having a Vegetable Hamper Fundraiser. Paper forms were sent home Friday. Forms with payment (cash or cheque only) must be returned by Wednesday, September 18. This year we are piloting an online option to purchase vegetable hampers. To purchase online, please click HERE.   • Meet The Teacher Night: Wednesday, September 18th, 2019. Please see below for the night's schedule:
  • 6:15pm in Holland Hall Parents visit their child(ren) teachers
  • 6:45pm Common assembly in the gym for Holland Hall and Mullock Hall Parents
  • 7:20pm Mullock Hall parents go to their child(ren) homeroom, collect schedules and do their child's schedule for all of day 1 and Period 1 and 4 of Day 2.


  • Recycling Blitz: The first Recycling Blitz of the year will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 9:30am-11:00am in the basement of Holland Hall. For more info on the recycling blitz and to view the schedule for the 2019-2020 school year, please click HERE.


  • Download our School App: Search St. Bonaventure’s College in your phone’s App Store. You can easily access teacher pages, school calendar and submit absent/late notes using the app. Allow push notifications to receive message from the app, such as school closures.

  • On Monday, our 2019 Walkathon was launched with a school wide assembly. Forms were sent home with each child and we look forward to a successful campaign.   • Cafeteria services begin today Monday, September 9th, 2019. A cafeteria menu and how to order was sent home yesterday. Microwaves are available to all student however items such as Kraft Dinner and frozen dinner, are not ideal due to the amount of time it takes to heat and cool these items.

  • Parent Auxiliary: The first Parent Auxiliary meeting of the new school year will take place Monday, September 9 at 7:30 pm in the Mullock Hall Resource Centre. Save the Date: PA Annual Fall Fair is Sunday, October 6, 1-3 pm. More details to follow.

  • Uniform Shop: An email was sent on Friday outlining the new procedures for the Uniform Shop. Please click HERE to review.

  • Books & Supplies: Gr. 9-12 students: Textbooks are available for purchase at LRDC 909, Pleasantville, St. John's. Some teachers do not require a textbook. You are encouraged to wait before purchasing textbooks.

  • First Day Information (Gr. 1-12): Tuesday, September 3rd is the first day of school for students in Grades 1-12 and it will be Day 7 on the schedule. Our start time for Tuesday is 9:00 am and the doors will open at 8:50 am. All students must be in full uniform.


  • Opening Mass: Thursday, September 5th at 11:00 am at the Basilica. A reception to follow sponsored by the Parent Auxiliary in the Aula Maxima. This mass will also celebrate our 20th Anniversary as a Jesuit School.


  • Allergy Policy: We have students with severe food allergies. Please review our an Allergy Policy for guidance when packing lunches. Click HERE for Allergy Policy.

  • New Parent Orientation Session: Tuesday, September 3rd at 7:00pm in the Aula Maxima in Mullock Hall.


  • Beginning Band Information Meeting: Thursday, September 5th at 7pm in the Aula Maxima in Mullock Hall. Beginning Band is available to any student from Grade 4 to Grade 12. New students to St. Bon’s are welcome. This meeting is for both students and their parents/guardians. Grade 4 students who attended the MUN Junior Band Week Beginner program in July, should also attend this meeting.


  • Uniform Shop: The uniform shop is opened for purchases or exchanges on Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th from 8:25am-8:45am. Our online store will launch permanently next week. The procedures for the online store will be communicated to parents at that time. Any other uniform concerns will require an appointment.


  • Parking on Mullock Street: A reminder that the City of St. John's made changes to parking on Mullock Street. Please review these changes by clicking HERE.


  • Suggestion Box: The suggestion box is located under the school life tab, as well as at the top of the front page next to the homework link.
