Class EXPECTATIONS

Classroom Expectations:

There are a few basic classroom rules.

Be Prepared – please come to class each day with the necessary materials. Notebooks, chromebooks, the assignment pad and pens or pencils will be used on an almost daily basis in addition to other supplies that may be needed occasionally. Students will have a textbook to use in class, but not take home.

Be on Time – punctuality is important. Students are expected to be seated and ready to begin when the bell rings. The bell signifies the beginning of class, not the time the halls should be clear.

Be an Active Learner – Students will learn more and have more fun if they participate in class and get involved.

Homework:

My goal for this school year is to minimize nightly homework assignments. Students will have work to do outside of class and will have due dates, but few traditional, nightly homework assignments. I hope to eliminate or at least minimize redundant work. Instead of having formal assignments students will have periodic quizzes and graded assignments to keep them accountable to their work and allow me to see who may need extra help with a topic.

Absent/Late Work:

If a student is absent from class they are required to make up any assignment that was missed. Students are required to copy the notes they missed from a classmate and then see me during homeroom or at another arranged time to discuss the class material. Students should utilize Academic Assistance to help catch up on work missed from being absent.

If long-term assignments or projects are not completed by the due date they lose a letter grade of value each day.

It is the student’s responsibility to make up an assignment (including quizzes). In the event of being absent for a quiz, please see me as soon as you get back to school to schedule a time to make up the quiz.

Grading System:

Grading is done using a total points system. Assignments are given a point value (larger assessments and tests are given larger value than smaller in class assignments). The number earned divided by the number possible equals the percentage earned. ex. 36/40=90%

Academic Assistance:

I am available for academic assistance daily in room 202. Students are encouraged to use this time productively. They should take advantage of this time to seek out assistance from a teacher before starting their homework.

High School History

9th Grade students will continue to take World History. 8th & 9th grade history classes will bridge over two years. 8th grade history will cover Ancient World History and transition to Modern World History in 9th grade.

Students will be recommended for one of three levels of coursework. Most students will take College Prep (CP) History. Some students will take Academic History which moves at a slightly slower pace and has less writing components. Other students will take Honors History. To be eligible for Honors History, students must maintain an average of 93% of higher for the year after MP3. In addition to having a 93% average, students need to receive a recommendation from their 8th grade history teacher.
